Hi there, SG friends.

This morning a expected to achieve Level 5 because I was at 4.91 and waiting for my last giveaway "received" marks. But it didn't happen.

The reason: My level mysteriously decreased from 4.91 to 4.66 and I don't know why.

As I'm a curious guy, is there any way to know what happened? maybe some kind of community level adjustments? maybe a bug? maybe I did something wrong and I was penalized? Just to know.. i'm not mad about it but I would like to know the reason.

Thanks to all!

probably gave away a game that was considered bundled. or >95% discount on steam? It gets corrected afterwards...

EDIT: mmm, looked at your profile and see no such games at first glance. Impressive giveaway-streak though :D

My guess would be that it's because "Of Orcs and Men" is currently bundled, though it doesn't seem to appear on the bundle list yet. If that is not the reason, you can expect your CV to drop a bit more.

First of all, thanks for the answers.

Yes, I also thought that the reason could be a recent bundled game ("Of Orcs and Men" is my first choice too) but as you said it doesn't appear in the list. There is no problem, just the disappointment of seeing the level 5 close at hand :P

Have a nice day :)

I imagine you can expect "Of Orcs and Men" to get added as well.

If a game drops in price in the Steam store it will also affect your level.

^this. But I can't really tell which game has dropped in price.

Which is pretty ridiculous in my eyes.

I agree (it's not like what you spent on it also dropped), but it is an unfortunate limitation of the system here.

The question people could and perhaps should ask: Why would it need to be a limitation?
I could imagine various ways to prevent this and keep correct prices at time of giveaway stored on this site for level-purposes.

I could ask the same question about multiple things to do with this site.

Like why it takes week to months to get to tickets. Like why the people going through the tickets supposedly don't have a convenient way of viewing all tickets for a single user at one time to make things more efficient (despite the recent site re-design). Like why the site couldn't auto-check if a user has activated their wins for certain games after a given amount of time (it pulls data for all the games you own every time you sync anyway). Like why new users are allowed to put up giveaways for any game (insert your AAA games of choice) without any restrictions whatsoever and little verification of whether they have any idea of what they are doing. Like why..... etc

Simpliest way is to at the time giveaway starts, add a field in database how much contribution value it gives, and when it ends, and winner receives game, just add to current profile that CV. It should be better and probably more optimized instead of calculating store values everytime..
But I guess it's just the way cg wanted it. Also, it kinda makes you giveaway more to keep up your level.

Its not done that way for a simple reason. This site gets price data from Steam, and sometimes that data glitches. Most regulars on the site have noticed when a game or DLC suddenly becomes $100 here, right? Rather than reward all the people able to exploit it in time, the game price is always set to the current price.

Oh yeah indeed, that also makes sense. I mean, there are always work around over all issues, but the way it is now requires no workarounds. xD

Imagining and implementing it are very different things. Most likely there are limitations we aren't aware of that make certain things not convenient for them to implement.

The fact that the Steam API is a bit flaky and tend to report the wrong price for various games ad DLC is a big part of it. It would require the staff to keep up with every glitch and to manually correct people's CV whenever there's one. (And they happen quite often)

Yep. Biggest bug on this site I've seen.

It's not a bug, but a design choice. The site doesn't store historical data on game's prices. It only keeps the current price in the database. Every calculation is based on that value.

Apparently bundle list was updated. Among those you have been given those count as bundled now (I might have missed some or, viceversa, added the wrong game to this list, it was a fast check).
War, the Game
Mushroom Men: Truffle Trouble
The Last Tinker™: City of Colors
About Love, Hate and the other ones
Hospital Manager
TownCraft
Night Mysteries: The Amphora Prisoner
Stay Alight

Yes, of course I did know all those games were bundled ones ... in fact, that's the main reason I gave them and I didn't expect to raise my level too much.

But I'm pretty sure that when I create "Hospital Manager", "TownCraft", "Night Mysteries: The Amphora Prisoner" and "Stay Alight" giveaways (my last four, I think) my ratio was 4.89 more or less, so it seems normal to think that my level should be the same or maybe some tenths more, but never a reduction to 4.66

It's ok, of course the website has its limitations, but... which one is perfect?

Thanks again for the answers

no, it's not normal to think like that. for that, you must be sure all the games you previously gave away were added to the bundle list. if a game is added to the bundle list, it loses 85% value. it might cause big level drops.

The other games, though, (that you gave away before) also gave the wrong amount of CV, so your lvl was already higher then the proper amount.

Not you OP but there are people whining about things and offer no real solution when the easiest they can do is to just stop using the site if it inconveniences them that much.

Woah so many giveaways in such a short time :) Probably a price drop in steam or a bundled game.

By the way, some days ago my 4.68 ratio droped to 4.56

Does this mean that our ratio level is always tied to steam price drops, whenever it's done? For example, if I decide to give today a GTA V copy with its actual price (60€), is it possible that my ratio decrease some months/years later with the first official price drop?

Just to know, as I said
