gta 5 retail to steam ?

ok so i bought gta 5 on steam as a gift :D but i can not seem to download it 60 gb will take 12 days to download at my current speed ... but a friend of mine has retail copy of gta 5 can i make it work somehow ?

Yes. You can copy-paste the files to the Steam folder and let Steam download what's missing.

Copy files from : C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

To : C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V

Steam will scan for already installed files and download some files (the .exes are different) and the patches.

it could work but it shouldn't...
if your friend has gta installed already try to copy the files and paste them on your gta folder (on steamapps), remember to close steam before and open steam once is done copying the files, right click on gta 5 (steam library), properties and check game integrity
this should take less then 12 days but there will always be some content that differs from steam to retail and nothing grants that it will work PLUS your current download progress will be lost

This is not relevant on the current case, GTA V retail discs are not installed with Steam.

yeah just thought of this myself and went to check

might still work since you have a steam key and don't need to use the (if (i dont actually own the game itself cant tell for sure))included key

should work as David wrote, have few friends who download through torrents, because were faster, instead of steam and just copied files over to steam

how the hell were torrents faster than steam... basically everywhere i went steam was downloading at max speed ....

Pirate games come in steam versions, retailed versions, or other drm versions. All of them need a crack to work properly. Basically, people share their files, and then a team creates a crack.

Isn't GTA V retail supposed to work only on Rockstar Social Club? As far as I know there are no steam keys, only way to get it there is buying it directly from the Steam page
