I usually just give away extra games or things I get for free (Happy Hour IndieGalas, etc).
I'd rather see someone else enjoy them than to let them go to waste.

Can't tell if trolling or not. If not, then OP is just another bean counter who can't value anything that can't be quantified. i.e. A part of one of the major problems currently facing western society.
Gifters gain non-quantifiable pride/satisfaction/fulfilment of moral duty. Giftees gain games/DLC for next to nothing. Just because one half of the consideration traded isn't quantifiable or convertible to hard assets doesn't mean that the system isn't economically sound. The site would have died off ages ago if it wasn't.
TL:DR - OP's argument is complete bollocks.

Gift makers, let me tell you something. You're wasting a lot of money for...nothing.
"But Mun, I just want to give a game I love to a community I love!" you argue in a nasally tone.
Immaterial! You neither want to give this game nor love this community! Heck, you might not even like the game yourself!
Everybody contributes to this site for different reasons. Those reasons include boosting contributor value, fulfilling a quota to join a group, satisfying their own sense of generosity, or even - incredibly - sharing a game they liked. Every one of these reasons carries dangers to the community.
Here's why:
Why then, do we keep on gifting?!
Because gifts.
