I'm currently playing Trine and I'm having a blast, I really didn't expect the game to be that good. For a long time I though the game is about controlling 3 characters at the same time which really turned me away from it, but once I found out you control only 1 character and can shift to other 2 whenever you want, the game suddenly became much more appealing.

So, I'd like you to recommend me more platform games (side-scrolling like Trine) other than Trine 2, obviously.

Some other platform games that I like:

Super Meat Boy - Very fun, but I want something less rage inducing.
Rochard - Recently finished this and immensely enjoyed it.
Crash Bandicoot 3 - The best platform game on PS1, had to mention it.
Captain Claw - Perhaps the best '90s platform game for PC, I reckon many members here are too young to have played it.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus - Another one from my childhood, quite challenging.
Shank 1 and 2 - More action oriented, still extremely fun.
Mark Of The Ninja - Basically stealth Shank.

I currently have Cave Story, Deadlight and Super House Of Dead Ninjas on my wishlist, haven't played those yet.

So, other recommendations?

Of all the recommended games in this topic, so far I like Capsized and Blocks That Matter. Snapshot looks fun, but unfortunately there's no demo on Steam.

Rayman Origins, Giana Sisters, Fly'N, Snapshot.

Also, Deadlight, Mark of the Ninja and the Shanks are awesome. SMB also. They Bleed Pixels is fun too.

The Cave and Sonic Generations also.

I've played Rayman Origins on friend's PS3, didn't like it.
I might try demos of other two, I've heard good things about Giana Sisters.

Well, you have to play a little to get all the cool stuff like the changing size ability and the underwater levels ;)

Seriously? I thought it was one of the very best platformers I've ever played. If not the best.

From classic stuff, I love Jazz Jackrabbit, I keep coming back to this game.

Btw there was a 3D version coming out, but it was cancelled in 2000 or so. The first level was complete, I managed to play alpha version and it was actually pretty good!

And also, VVVVVV is a great platformer - difficult, but not rage inducing (I finished it within 3 hours... I didn't get all the trinkets, though).

I'm usually against platformers going 3D. Crash Bandicoot manages to pull it off extremely well, but that's rare.

VVVVVV is fun, but I wouldn't call it casual. It's challenging and requires lots of patience, especially towards the end.

Braid is definitely more puzzler than it is platformer and it can get pretty complex and leave you stumped at times. Even so, it's a rewarding feeling when you finally figure something out for yourself that you were previously stuck on. It's not for everyone though and depending on whether you have a mind for the sort of puzzles that are in it, you will probably either love it or hate it.

I'm not a big fan of Sonic franchise.
Dark Void Zero looks a bit too retro for my taste.
I've already finished Bionic Commando: Rearmed and really liked it.

You should try Jet Set Radio too, it's pretty good. And Dustforce if you would like to play something Meat Boy-ish.

Giana Sisters is great, also Sonic Generations was a lot of fun and If you don't mind that a game is over after 1h you should try DLC Quest

I wanna say Bit.Trip.Runner and Runner 2, they can be challenging, but are also very methodical, so it takes practice and focus, not necessarily skill. Plus it's cool to chill out.

Metroid 3/4
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Almost any Mario game
Kirby Super Star
Donkey Kong Country / 2
Braid (it is a platformer just as Portal is an fps, but anyway heavily suggested)
LIMBO
Super Meat Boy

It is, but you can play it offline against bots just in case you don't feel ready =] It's a blast with friends, we played it a lot not too long ago =D

Cave Story, La Mulana, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Braid, Oozi: earth Adventure, Chester, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1-2.

Should keep you occupied for a while.

Cave Story is already on the list.
Giana Sisters doesn't appeal me.
I already played Braid and didn't like it.
La-Mulana isn't out yet but looks fun, I'll try it out.
I already played Bionic Commando and liked it.
I played most Commander Keen games and liked them. Man I feel old.
Same goes for Duke Nukem 1 and 2.

That's a different game. They're by the same designer and have the same name, but they're different games. The X-box version will supposedly eventually be on PC, but it will cost money.

If you're looking for something harder-than-Nintendo-hard, there's always I Wanna Be the Guy as far as I know it's free to download and is basically a deliberately super difficult, damn near masochistic platformer and homage to old style platform games.

I know, there are 3 levels in Super Meat Boy devoted to The Guy and they're super hard. I watched gameplay on YouTube and I don't want to even try.
