They are probably on mobile and/or are busy people.

They have a whole week to redeem. Chill out.

activation on mobile is no longer a problem since introduction of web-activation of steam keys, and especially since addition of Redeem button. I mean I usually spend 75% of my SG time on mobile and have no problems with key activation at all ;)

Ofc, people still have 1 week, they can wait one week for whatever reason they like, even if it is just to screw with GA creator, being a dick is not against the rules, but 'I cannot activate, I'm on mobile' is no longer a thing ;)

Is there a redeem option in the SG app (or Steam app)? I haven't tested myself.
I never redeem a key with browser on mobile, I don't even know my steam password...
I might also have a chrome open on my home pc and sg open on some tab while I'm not home, then again I don't think it has ever taken me over a day to redeem a key.

not using SG App, using normal SG website on Smartphone - and just click Redeem button - it takes you to mobile client which works perfectly fine on Android.

Also for Android smartphones - Android currently have built-in password manager, so even if you don't remember your password, put it in once while at home or somewhere where you can check it, and since then logging in will not be a problem, even if your mobile session ends.

Ah right thatd cool! There will be people (like myself) that had no idea about web key activation!

Sometimes... When people used to say "REDEEM THE KEY INSTANTLY" I would wait out of spite ;)

tell me this then - how can you use SG on mobile phone then? After all SG requires you to log in via Steam in the first place, if you cannot log into Steam on smartphone, how can you use smartphone to be online on SG?

Steam logins timeout? (Not everyone has auth on mobile)

Steamgifts cookie might have longer lifetime.

I don't use SG on mobile, but another site and steam logsout always first before other site.

if we are talking official authenthication options - there are two, mobile app and email. if you have Android or iOS (which in 2017 was 99.8% of Market combined) you can use mobile app on your phone. If for whatever way you decide you don't want mobile app, if you are browsing SG it means you have interner connection, you should have access to your email as well, so you can get code there. If you are using other soft for emulating mobile app, which you could normally use after all, you have only yourself to blame that you cannot perform all actions - access to all of them was given to you, you just decided to give it up. Only exceptions are the beforementioned very small minority of 0.2% users who actively use smartphone with other OS (and these do exist, my fiancee till 2 months ago was herself using Sailfish OS, until whe switched to Blackberry KeyOne because of physical kb), and quite bigger group of people who don't have any smartphone at all - but if you are not owning a mobile device then most likelly you are also not having a way to browse SG on mobile ;p

I mean in that sense it is my fault and there are ways to get auth on both mobile & pc, but 99% time don't need it, so haven't bothered doing it.

(I don't really see need from Steam(Gifts) on go.)

ofc, you don't need it so it's reasonable for you not to have it ;) but like you yourself said - "you don't really see need from Steam(Gifts) on go" ;) topic is about pleople who are on SG all the time, and specific comment I replied to about people who are on SG using mobile, so what I am saying is not referring to people like you (who do not visit SG on mobile a lot) but about people like me who visit it on mobile a lot, and how they can now simply activate keys anyway.

And I'm speaking here from personal experience, as recently between 50 and 75% of my SG activity is on mobile, especially during travels, and new system helps me a lot ;) Before when I knew I am going to be far from my PC for a long time I would simply not enter any GAs ending in this perion, nowadays even if I'm 2000 kilometers away from my PC I can still just log in daily let's say lying in bed in the evening, activate whatever I want, and switch off ^^

then like I responded to madjoki - you yourself choose to limit your options, you cannot really blame anyone for 'not being able to use something', if you have all the tools you need to use it, you just by yourself decide to give them up. Not saying whether your choice is good or bad, but saying you shouldn't complain if your limits are purely based on your own decisions.

ok xD
steam always logged out for me - on opera, chrome and mozilla. I don't remember my password and don't want to enter password everytime when i'm logged out. So i activate keys only via steam client on my laptop xD

like I said - you don't have to remember your password, Android has built in encrypted password manager now, if you don't want Android one you can use any of lots of 3rd party password managers. The way manager works is that it stores password encrypted and pastes it for you, so even if someone gains access to your phone they cannot just open app and copy your passwords to send them to yourself (also they wouldn't need, after all you said you have steam mobile app, you are logged into it, so they can just use steam mobile app in case they got access to your phone). But ofc, there is also some possibility, that some of these managers have backdoor or day0 unreleased exploit and are not really that safe, so like with everything it's your decission, and it's entirely up to you to decide you don't want to use it ;)
Still - you decided not to use it, it's not the case of you having to remember password or needing to manually put it in every time, as there are multiple options to do that ;)

I try to grab all my key activation on the video so that if the key does not work, I can prove it (yes, I'm a reinsurer), my android does not support video recording, so I try to activate it only on PC. I'm doing poorly?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i don't see the problem. Windows does not have built in screen-recording software either, so you probably installed a 3rd party soft so you can record your key activation, there are apps for Android that allows you to record your screen - so what's the difference?

Also, sorry to break it to you, but video of key activation is no proof anyway ;) You could have used the key on another account, then record you trying to activate it on main to show 'duplicate product' - so like I said, proves nothing ;) And if you record yourself clicking View - then also no proof, as webpage front-end can be modified locally, and if all we see is the video there is no way for us to tell if we are seeing real page or modified one if it's a pre-recorded video ;)

TL;DR - nothing bad with trying to be reinsured and safe, but all the long way you are going to reinsure yourself is actually worthless, as it cannot be used as evidence ;) So yeah, your reinsurance you are doing poorly ;p

My world is destroyed :( Then, is there no way to prove activation of the key? And all my records are really rubbish ... in any case, thanks for the science)
I have an old android that requires root to record video, which I do not have since they interfere with some applications.

not really, there is no way to prove for 100% key was invalid and you did not tamper with an evidence. Screenshots may be shopped, videos may be recorded like I mentioned before, even livestreams won't work, as you could just livestream prepared fake website ^^ It is always going to be word against word in these cases, that's why it's really not necessary to do all these things you are doing, as in case when you say one thing and GA creator another - no proof you both provide cannot be considered as solid enough to take consequences ;)

At times, they might be looking at steamgifts on mobile but not at a computer.
For example for a recent win I had, I saw I had won the game at about 7am.
However, I was out the whole day from 6am-9pm and could only activate it after I got home.

As for those who wait for a few days, I'm not sure.

I think some people activate their games every few days or so possibly in batches. If you require quick feedback you should state this in your giveaway description. Otherwise 7 days is the permitted time to activate a won giveaway.

I've come to discover that this is all too common. A lot of people don't communicate and giveaway creators are left to figure out if their winner marked as Not received because there was an issue with the key or the they simply didn't feel like having that particular game in their library anymore.

When you make a GA, you can add level restrict to reduce the possibility.
I think many level 0 user are leecher or robots.

Sometimes people might be truly online, just joining giveaways or reading discussions. Activating a game through mobile, while possible, isn't convenient enough. For example I still hate writing, and I always leave a thanks note under every giveaway I win. Why I should do that from mobile if I can do it from my chair in front of PC just a few hours from now? It's not like something bad is going to happen just because of that.

And there are of course bots, not all of them are malicious though. For example, I'm online 24/7, because every 15 minutes ArchiBoT is parsing giveaways created for my private giveaway group - this way I don't need to waste time maintaining the group and ensuring that everybody is following the rules. cg is fully aware of that, since I asked for permission before I coded it.

In general though, every winner has a week to activate a game, and you shouldn't be mad even if somebody is truly avoiding activating that giveaway before. Sometimes I'm just joining SG for a second, joining some specific giveaway or just reading discussions, without immediate urge to activate everything I win right away, since nothing bad will happen if I activate a few hours later. Winners are humans, same as you. Activating all giveaways instantly would actually prove that you're a bot :3.

I have ASF running almost 24/7 on a private server, so I am online on steam most of the time but not actually in front of my PC so I can't redeem keys immediately, but I don't think there are many people that do that.

  1. They are bots. Still seems to be the most common and likely cause.
  2. They have the tab open and the PC running all the time. I sure as hell spend 10-15 hours a day here, even if I actually check the site much less, all because of pinned tabs.
  3. They still tend to just activate all games on weekends. I regularly got winners like that before the implementation of the web activation. For the longest time, I used to just batch up all giveaways and make them end on Thursday evening or Friday afternoon, since most got marked on weekends anyway.
  4. They are actually using the mobile app, which lacks redeem. (Plus as I hear, Steam on mobile is still anything but a pleasant experience.)
  5. They are lazy.
  6. They are looking for a buyer first for the key. (Yes, happened to me.)

Probably I think you explained every possible scenario :)
Yeah, I know that many have Steam on their mobile phones.. don't ask me why, I'd never even try to install it.
Anyways, the most common cause is bot, scripts and other things that I don't understand but that seem quite used these years.
They also can be lazy, or on mobile phones and so on.
Anyways, I always write a mail to them (I bypass often the Steam message board since it's often closed for non-friends and, when it's open, they don't read/answer) stating that if a week will pass, I will right away request a new winner.
And that's how I resolved pretty much all of my issues.
As you rightly said, many users too have 200 tabs open at the same time so that they seem online but they aren't actually looking to them.
No problems though, especially with the new bulk of moderators here who answer after few minutes. Reroll after a week if an unpleasant experience is happening, and if you don't want them you are forced to make your giveaways like 5+ or whitelisted only and such.
I make often them 0 or 1+ so that I have those experiences from time to time but thanks to this awesome staff there are never problems :)

When switching gift giving methods from "mail", there was such a person.

No response from Steam contact. Despite online display, over one week passed.
Finally I got a lottery for "another winner" from the support

Sometimes I feel like it might say I’m online but it’s been just that the tab is open in my phone iOS chrome and running? Or maybe it’s that the tab in my main pc is open and running even tho it should be asleep while I’m out of the house or asleep, and since it’s open it might be running and logged online? Or maybe it’s that I went to the bathroom for a nice hot bath and the pc is running the SG page so it’s online, or maybe it’s just that I’m on the site reading through discussions and joining giveaways but just failed to notice the blinking won notification because I didn’t expect that I had won something, but mainly, I’m also annoyed about redemption delays. Usually, max I would delay is a night’s sleep when I’m asleep and I won it while I was knocked out, meaning I’ll open and redeem it only after ten hours max, but those who are online and take like so many days without explaining themselves makes me question why are they even online a lil, but I also understand cuz my tabs might be online and logged on but doesn’t mean I’m not watching some YouTube or TV series in the main tab, I don’t know what my point is really I’m just sharing. Main point maybe; don’t bot.
