I don't agree with all of you. I prefer from far L4D2 because of its campaigns even though KF has updates regularly but KF has only waves of zobies and you have so many things to see in L4D2 that I'm sure nobody has ever seen yet. Check it out:
Silent Hill : L4D2 Campaign, this is the entire story of the original game into L4D2.
Crash Bandicoot Course
Vanilla Ghost House
Those campaigns are so much fun and it's so a pleasure to play them over again. For me KF is repetitive and I rather play a COD Zombie mod than it. It's only my taste, no offense.

KF has custom story maps that are more or less like L4D2 campaigns, some of them recreated super mario bros levels or the house from the first Resident Evil. Also Tripwire added the new objective game mode that makes the game more dynamic. KF is repetitive only if you stick to play in the same Normal servers.

Remember that most custom servers disable perk progression, so if in the server browser the option "Perks Enabled" is checked you won't see those servers. I reccomend maps like KF-Candlesmoke, KF-TheHive (inspired by the Resident Evil movie), KF-RE1-Mansion-Story or, even better, take a look here. Keep in mind that these are custom maps, so quality may be awful depending on the author and due to aggressive repawns you may want to select Beginner or Normal difficulties.
Also Objective map names begin with KFO instead of KF, search for those.

I think one of my favorites is the Minecraft: DeathCraft map.

Although I like L4D more than Killing floor, I think L4D isn't that friendly anymore to new players.
All you encounter in the versus modes are either hackers or fully premade teams, which is kinda demoralizing when you try your best to learn a new game.
So my suggestion would be to buy killing floor instead.

I have both, they are kind of apples and oranges. But Killing Floor is overall a more exciting experience.
I get bored of the 'trigger the horde' bullshit but getting past wave and wave of zombies and finally fighting the Fleshpound never gets old.

Killing floor due to its perk progression system and resource gathering throughout waves, the weapons in general feel a lot more responsive.
Not enough variety in L4D2 if you ask me, leave mods out of it - both games support modding but L4D has a much larger community that can support it.
