I wonder: Does cap overflow still exist, if you win and your other deleted GA entries contribute to exceed the 400p cap?
If the cap overflow still exists, I have the impression that it is handled in a way that treats users differently, just based on when they win.

Let's imagine that 2 users left SG for the day, with 100 points left. Both will return 10 hours later, gaining 6x4x10 = 240 points in that time. Both entered 5 GAs for a 40 points game, which they will win within those 10 hours.

The difference:
User A wins shortly before returning to SG.
User B wins shortly after leaving SG.

A had 100 points
He accumulated 240 points over time and has 340 points now.
He wins, 4*40 points get reimbursed.
The system registers that he exceeds the 400p cap because he won, increases his cap to 500p.

B had 100 points.
He wins, 4*40 points get reimbursed, so he has 260 points now.
240 points get added over time.
The system only keeps adding 6p per 15 minutes though, ignoring that the user will exceed the cap thanks to an earlier win. Caps out at 400.

I'm not 100% sure if that is how it works. Mea culpa if I got it wrong.
But if this is the way it works, it doesn't really seem fair considering that the only difference is when space cat decides to appear.

My suggestion thus:
Add a temporary cap overflow whenever someone wins, till they get back online. And not only if they need a cap overflow right in the moment when they win.

I don't understand what you are asking, but this is how the cap works. The site gives everyone 6 points per 15 minutes until they hit the 400 point cap. Once you hit that cap you no longer receive the 6 points every 15 minutes. If any points are returned to your account because you win a giveaway and are removed from all others of the same game or a user deletes a giveaway that you were entered in, those points get returned to your account with no limit. You will continue to receive all points that get returned to your account, you just will not receive the 6 points per 15 minutes until you get your account back under 400 points.

Edit: I read it again and yes, you are correct. Depending on how many points you have when you win a giveaway and how many get returned from the removed entries, someone can get more or less points depending on how long they are away from the site after hitting the 400 point cap.

So, I think what you want is returned points calculated separate from earned points so that you don't stop earning the points you were expecting to earn if you win and have points returned over the 400 point cap.

I think that would be fine, but I personally don't have a problem with the way it is now. Really I would like to have it setup so that we are not removed from any giveaways until we mark the game that we won as received. Then again, I think we get too many points already and too many people enter for games they don't want to play, they just want them to farm for cards or add a +1 to their account.

A temporary cap overflow would be really nice to have. Unfortunately it's technically a lot harder to implement as you'd have to track when users have last been around as well as the total amount of points reimbursed after every single win and then count them towards the cap if they happen to reach it before they log in the next time. It's simply too impractical. Having a global temporary overflow buffer based on your latest login could be nice but also has potential drawbacks in addition to being hard to implement.

Well this is easily solved having two different point pools, the regular one and the "refunded" the refunded points pool should have priority to consume points first, but I don't think this feature is really needed.

Note that refunded only includes the following cases.
You won a game so all the other entries for that game are refunded.
A GA you entered gets deleted so you get a refund.

Removing entries manually should return those points to the standard pool.

Real Life™ Scenario:
User wins multiple games, but does not return to site for over a year. Meanwhile, the won games are re-rolled (due to lack of response)

Seeing as how points are implemented so as to act as a reward/inducement to use the site, making a change so that people who leave and don't come back get additional points seems counter-intuitive..

TBH if we're at the level of calculating how fair it is that RNG gonna RNG, it's high time to banish the CV system. t's way more unfair than the chance of someone winning a game (!) at a "wrong" time.

Hehe, certainly true. Yet we also only talk about a minor oversight in the system, with a rather simple solution available (logically, not necessarily technically). So it isn't armageddon time. Yet. ;)

Wellll....I think what is really unfair is not including user C in your scenario. He didn't win anything in that 10 hour period. He's the one that gets screwed.

I reserve my pity for (non)user D, who doesn't even know that Steamgifts exists!

Solution to this injustice and problem below is to return all points to user D

Oh, I thought we were going to talk about how the points cap can be technically abused by entering giveaways ending in a month, waiting until they regenerate, keep entering giveaways ending in a month and waiting for the regenerative cap to be reached, then when satisfied, just leave every giveaway and be ready to have an edge over the "competition" when a lot of giveaways happen at the same time.

(No, I don't do that personally. But no, I'm not kidding - It's totally a thing that can be done.)
