Is the site broken or something? They have no support since it's not connected. I haven't used the site for over a year or so. When I try to post anything it just says saving and never actually does anything.

While the website is no longer being moderated/improved, it still functions as intended here. Try a different browser?

barter.vg has always been better in nearly every conceivable way, but its structure is focused fairly specifically around trading games for other games, whereas ST was more open-ended, leaving it more accessible to trading for paypal, CS:GO keys, or similar.

I disagree with that. You can add items on your tradeables and wishlist and can therefore use them for trades. Good deal of traders accepts them on Barter. You have the option of selecting the amount of specific item you're willing to trade with/for or can select negotiable option and negotiate with the trader after he adds you if he is interested in trading for/with items.

Stupid question, How do I change my thing from unclaimed profile for my name? https://barter.vg/u/2ad8/

It happens whenever Barter can't sync your username correctly, as I understand it. From what I know, it happens when you use unicode characters in your username (which isn't an issue for you) or when your privacy settings are toggled on. Have you disabled the new collection privacy settings (also necessary for SG syncing) yet?

Once you've checked through everything, try a manual sync on SG- the option'll be down a bit on your profile page.
If you're still having problems, you can ask for assistance in Barter's Steam Group, here.

I don't think that the person who removed the moderation there is in any way surprised that there are scammers. So the meme is a bit off :P

As for the scammers, yes there are some out there but there are also a lot of decent and honest people there too, at least there were when I last traded, but that wasn't since 2016 and I only traded two times that year. I I made tons of trades there (my rep is +107/-0) and it's easy to protect yourself from scammers. I had to learn a couple lessons the hard way but my key advice to anyone new is if your rep is higher than theirs, they, not you, go first and never make an exception. And second, always make sure they are you they say they are. Click on the name of the person you are talking to and make sure their profile is identical to the person they are claiming to be. That's how some scammers get one over on people, by changing their name to the same name as a reliable trader with good rep. Go to the add for the trader you are trying to deal with and work your way to his/her/sclee's/scler's profile and make sure it matches up with the profile of who you are speaking with. They might be able to copy the name but they aren't gonna have the same number of games, badges, etc.
