Nights get a bit less intimidating when you can zip around places on a hook, until then they are spooky

I remember there were about only 1, 2 or 3 main missions during night cycle. As long as you don't attract Volatiles (your worst nightmare during night cycle) you're 100% fine. In fact, between the middle and ending of the game it's quite easy to kill them, so they may be a burden only in the beggining.
EDIT: Also if there's no mission telling you otherwise, you don't have to play the night cycle if you don't want, you can find a safe house and sleep until morning.

yes, at least for me it's extremely scary. it's not just because you die in 3 hits from volatiles xD, night-time is really well done.
the campaign has at least 4 night missions, then you have side-quests. you also need to hunt down enemies at night to get crafting materials.
once you get a max-level weapon and 2 boosters (stamina and resistance), night-time is super easy. explosive arrows are also very helpful.

Oh yeah, the night is terrifying, at least at first. When you get several specific upgrades, you get much more comfortable with being outside at night. But the terror never goes away. I remember being pretty highleveled, and having to crawl through zombie-infested tunnels. That was extremely scary, even with a lot of stealth abilities and powerful levels.
But still, the game is extremely good, you definitely should play it. Mabye bring a friend if you think it's going to be too much, but do play it =)

1000h of gameplay on Dying Light. I only play at night now because it's the multiplayer continuity (invasion are only at night and there is more fun the night). Scary? oh yes, the first mission by night (first volatile encounter) is the most scary. At higt level when you do it again it's really not the same. It becomes so easy... but you'll have 40-50 hours of gameplay (completist game) before been accustomed.
The funnier is to stay all the night fighting/hiding volatile.

There is one story-mission you are forced to play in night and that mission gets soooooo scary because you'll have low level and little health and not many movement skills. As a good note, until you take it you can explore world in day/evening, so you can get lots of safehouses unlocked
Later, when you're packed with EXPs it gets easier to fight (if you want to fight), you will also get grapling hook that will make traveling much easier, and you will get Ulitmate Dying Light Cheat skill - kill zombie, cover yourself with its innards, zombies will not recognize you for few minutes, so all you have to do is kill some standard zombie every 3-4 minutes and nobody will bother you.

I've played Dying Light recently, I confirm there are some missions you have to do at night, but you don't have to play the whole time during the night to accomplish those mission. You can just go the safe place near the location of your mission, sleep until it's night and then go outside to complete the mission. The mini map helps you a lot, you will be able to sneak to your destination without getting noticed by Volatiles.
I don't like playing at night too, especially in "The Following" map, but in the regular game, you can just jump through the buildings and you will stay safe most of the time.

Yes there are some missions which require you to do something at night however night will always be dangerous until you finish the game once and unlock your ultimate abilities.
I still haven't finished the game but I got some people who did joining me who have already finished the game and they are insanely overpowered.

Anyone know how much the Enhanced Edition goes for on a Steam sale? Preferably an American citizen.

I got it 60% off on steam, $23,99 USD (here we have the same prices as the US, at least for now)

Steam price tracking sites did show $23.99; I think I will buy the main game for now and DLCs in the future if I like the game.

I think I saw it on sale for 20$ during that last sale (Halloween)

The game definitely looks as a successor to the Dead Island games and takes everything Dead Island has to one step above in effort. My largest dilemma is the day/night cycle. The night time is fucking scary from watching on YouTube alone. Are there missions that require the player to go at night? Is the intimidation of the night wears off fast or does the game keeps the player always uncomfortable?
