From what I've read, it had some strange issues that were unexpected, but the newest beta build of the firmware apparently does work for it, so it's apparently Coming Soon™

It'll be a long process to review past games, but Im sure moving forward, devs will keep the Stemdeck in mind when creating their games. In 1-2 years, software optimizations will make retrocompatibility pretty much standard
Quite brilliant for Valve IMO. They already have the most popular sales platform - if they get to set the standard for the hardware platform they'll be pretty much unstoppable

Out of curiosity I went through the "verified" games in my library and while it still is just a small fraction of the whole thing the catalog already seems to be quite varied and robust for a device that released very recently. If the Deck was a console and not a PC this would be the most impressive selection of games for a launch window ever on a handheld.

I had the impression that their verification process slowed down in recent weeks. At least in my library they only added about as many entries in all of April, as they achieved previously 4-5 days. Guess they might be in the process of restructuring.
Anyways, 24% playable is impressive enough.

They mean that out of those 60000 games (at best) only 6000 aren't asset flips or porn games (which don't count; though personally I don't mind porn games as long as they aren't as low-effort-cash-grabs as the asset flips).
So 2000 is 1/3 out of 6000. :)

you mean they thought it said 20k not 2k and got it wrong

Melusca doesn't consider 54k games as "real games" from Steam.
So Steam has only 6k "real games", and 1/3 of those "real ghames" are already playable.

well, if you view these crappy assert flips as games you might me deluded

so because a few games are cash grab rubbish that means 90% on Steam must be bad

sorry but how is you deciding you hate most of the games on Steam = to basic math - since when did you get to decide what is a good game i think there are plenty more good games thank 6000 but if that is what you think fair enough

Well obviously I pulled that 10% value out of my butt since I don't have any exact data, but the rest is just multiplying and dividing numbers, so yeah, basic math :x
You can play asset flips on your Steam Deck if you want (at least as long as they're playable lol), but personally I'd rather play interesting games instead.

welp, no reason to save up and buy one now ¯_(ツ)_/¯

do you know if you can do one offline and the other online? like i did with my pc and laptop for years until i melted it playing sims 3.
Comment has been collapsed.
you can, but if the game has steam cloud sync there might be a problem (offline one doesn't sync and when you go online you need to choose the cloud sync to use, the offline one or the one existing in cloud, overwriting one of them)

Honest question, why would you want to play two games at the same time by yourself? I can understand if you're talking about other types of software that you own on Steam or two people using one account but can't think of how anyone would have the attention to play two things simultaneously.

i enjoy the management games where you can relax and let the game play without having to hold its hand
zoo tycoons
roller coaster tycoons
sims
deep sea tycoon
also games where you need to farm dumb shit by being on them for x amount of time
most days im playing steam games well listening to an audio book or watching a sub par tv show. right now its Eureka

Not really the thing I was asking about, I've also watched or listened to other stuff while playing a game that doesn't require constant attention (there's a reason why I have a two monitors set up), but that's different from straight up playing two games at the same time.

Looks like I have about half the games they've tested. ~700 verified games (376 good to go, 325 'playable'), 258 unsupported.
I'm sure it'll continue to get better but even if it continues at this pace it's not bad at all! I'm Q2 gang, so still checking those emails every Monday :)

I got mine yesterday unexpectedly, thought they would them in the mornings but was late in the afternoon.
Had mine reserved i think a day later after it begun, and was also Q2.
But i also believe they send mails twice a week.

Oh, good to know, thanks! Now I get to be disappointed multiple times a week, haha. I don't check my email all that often though, so I appreciate the heads up.
Also congrats, hope you're digging it! Just realized you were saying you got your email not the deck itself but congrats anyway :)

A lot of people in reddit (who already own a SD) report that untested or even games rated "unsupported" play fine, so don't take these ratings at face value.

well, shellshock live could be playable if not for that unity launcher where you select options

"Valve has announced that over 2000 games in the Steam library have now been officially branded either ‘verified’ or ‘playable’ for Steam Deck.
Valve is in the process of reviewing the entire Steam catalogue, and is marking each game with one of four ratings designed to show how smooth the experience will be when playing that game on its upcoming handheld.
These ratings are designed to let Steam Deck owners easily tell which games are best suited for play on the Deck.
According to a new blog on the Steam website, over 2000 games are now officially declared either ‘verified’ or ‘playable’.
If a game has been categorised as ‘verified’ that means it works perfectly on the Steam Deck with button controls. If a game is ‘playable’ then it may have some slight issues.
These may include the need to use the touchscreen or virtual keyboard, the in-game text being small, or the need to execute some operations manually (such as using the touchscreen to open a launcher).
At the time of writing, 2,126 games have been tagged as ‘verified’ or ‘playable’ on Steam. Of these, 1,109 are ‘verified’ and 1,017 are ‘playable’.
Valve also launched a service on February which lets players see which of their own Steam games will work on the Steam Deck.
Players can visit a new Steam Deck Compatibility page which lets them log into their Steam account and see which of their games have been tested so far."
