What do you think about this?
Wut?
Edit: Nvm can see the image now. That hole is nearly a perfect rectangle.

There seems to be a lot of stuffing, at most I think there'd be a scratch. You can deal with the seller after that, even more so if you took shipping insurance for such a precious item.

Oh that was a risky move... I bought mine in pieces, around a thousand dollar in total, and then built it myself. And when I moved two years after that, I shipped it to myself and made sure to take insurance anyway. It was like 50$ more to make sure my precious jewel would make it safely (or that I'd get enough money to replace the broken parts). Worth it really, when your computer is what you use the most daily.

Open it. If it's broken, send it back for a new one.

should still be able to send it back just explain what happened to who you ordered from I got a bent computer case one time and was given an return label right away (deleted story that doesn't matter)

Hah, a poll option that perfectly describes my action: "I thought that hyper-linked period at the end was a giveaway"
The more important question is, did the contents survive intact, is the hole just superficial or did it actually cause damage as well? Cos the amount of styrofoam around most things these days like that, means you may find it's all ok. Fingers crossed.

I ordered a motherboard last year and it came in the middle of a washing machine box. Literally it was an actual washing machine box filled with styrofoam pellets with the motherboard in the middle. And the motherboard was broken.

It's fine! I had lots of fun shouting at people and being sarcastic and I got a full refund and found a better motherboard.
I hope everything works out for you also!

It was really bizarre. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself.

Maplins in the UK - you would have to ask them why...

You have no idea. :D One summer I had a job working for UPS. This was when things were less automated. The loaded trailers would come in with most of the light / fragile stuff on the bottom and the big heavy stuff thrown on top. My job was to unload them as fast as possible.

Ouch. Why have you not opened it yet to check, though?

Looks like something was hitting the box repeatedly during the trip, going by those other brown markings. Hope the machine survived the trip.

Sorry to hear that Nyoko! Hope the computer is well!

Looks like it got a hit from a forklift of some sort. :D

It seems the forklift operator got it with the 3rd try :D

I know, i was kidding. At my previous job an autosampler for a waste water facility was delivered in much worst condition. It was destroyed and the markings from the forklift was all over the container box.
EDIT: You should send the photo to the seller and explain the situation.

Hopefully it works. :D
I mean, even if you signed for it, if you paid for it with a CC and they don't want to exchange it, you can always charge it back :)

Ow... That looks pretty bad. However, I'm really confused as of why you haven't opened the box yet.
You must feel really pissed about this right now, so if I were you, I'd open the box to at least determine whether or not the computer sustained any actual damage. If not, well your day just got better, you were lucky! If not, well at least you now have a good reason to be angry. ^^

The delivery company will have insurance. You can prove you didn't sign for it, and you didn't specifically agree for someone else to sign for it either. This picture is when you first saw the box, with it still sealed, worst case scenario is that it is broken and with this you have the evidence to complain to the delivery company for a refund of the parcel.
Hopefully it is either not broken when you finally open it, or it gets fixed without any more cost to you

I disagree, in this image you cannot see the top of the box. So they do not know if I opened it or not. Therefore it could be reasoned that I did this AFTERWARDS I opened it. Also that any damage that happened to it could have happened afterwards I opened it.

Assuming that you bought it - it is always seller's responsibility to make sure item is delivered to you in one piece (at least in the US). It does not matter if you accepted or refused the damaged package. Besides, the contents may not even be damaged (hard to tell just looking at the picture).

I feel really sorry for you, but I agree that you should contact the shipper. Ask the person on the phone what his/her name is, and record the conversation. Bonus points if you have a webcam and can show them the box through Skype or something (also recorded). Documentation isevwerything when it comes to a court of law (in case you have to sue for damages).
"So, you want me to open the box, now? OK, I will now open the box on the authority of [support person]...."

Ok, so here's an important question... Was there any noticeable physical damage (scratches, dents) on the CPU on the same side and region the hole is in the box? If there wasn't, you're safe with the warranty, I suppose.
Regarding the HDMI cable, well, I'm not sure what "hard getting the HDMI cord there" means. You have to make a lot of effort to plug it in? About the TV, if it's a TV, not a monitor, you have to use the HDMI (DVI) port. The "normal" HDMI port won't work often.

They are 2 TINY dents? Doesn't sound like too much damage. And is the motherboard on this side of the CPU? If not, you should be safe. If yes, there's a chance something bad happened, but not necessarily.
About the HDMI, I meant the port on your TV. There are usually more than one. Not on the computer.
PS: BTW, what's that computer's specs?
Comment has been collapsed.
I see. Also the Motherboard was on the opposite side of the computer. Trust me, if the impact wasn't in a place where there wasn't a whole lot of nothing. I wouldn't have even turned the computer on. Would've sent that shit straight back.
Also, here's my specs.

damn, that suck, but as long as the pc itself intact , everything is good i guess, so check it out

Well the computer i've been struggling with the people I bought it from for two weeks finally came in today! And behold behold! It has a giant fucking hole on the side of the box! (see below)
That's nice. I wouldn't have accepted it, but these stupid asshole old ladies I live with don't give a crap about me and didn't think "Gee, there sure is a lot of FRAGILE warnings on this box. And Nyoko7 DID tell me that she was expecting a COMPUTER which she said would cost her ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. So instead of GOING TO HER ROOM AND LETTING HER KNOW HER ORDER IS HERE. I'm just going to sign this order even though it's NOT MINE and there's a GIANT HOLE ON THE SIDE OF THE BOX WITH GIANT BOLD FRAGILE WARNINGS AROUND THE BOX."
They got me immediately after they signed it. Fucking pricks.
Edit: Last night I plugged a HDMI cord into it, to my tv and it was hard getting the HDMI cord in there. Eventually I got it in. It doesn't always respond to the HDMI cord so that might be a sign.
Other than that, I don't know. I don't have a monitor yet, or speakers even. Also with my internet connection being absolutely horrendous (we're talking 48 kb/s internet speeds.) It's really hard to tell if my computer is a broken piece of crap or not. The HDMI problems is really all I have to report right now, it doesn't have any physical damages as far as I can tell. I know pretty much nothing about computers and I just started my education about them 2 months ago. So, iunno.
