Hello.

I was curious about this matter for some time. I tried searching similar thread with no results. So, how do you enter giveaways?
Edit: Please, mention if you do run out of points. (And optionally at what point).

I have to mention, that I hide games that doesn't seem fun at all, looks terrible, are "blacklisted" genre for me, etc. So I only try to have giveaways for games I'd gladly try out and play.

Here's how I do (and I always run out of points):
Variant 1 - Complex
First I enter all wishlist games.
Then I search for discussions-hidden GAs or puzzles.
Next, I browse all public GAs, to search for Poland region only or smaller group exclusives..
Then, I enter GAs from highest level I can reach, but only those GAs that end in 8 or 24 hours (depends how busy I might be).
Logic behind this is, that if I won't be able to access internet, I will still have chance and games I really desire or found interesting enough.

Variant 2 - Simple
I only enter giveaways that will soon expire (less than 24 hours). Prioritizing higher levels first.
Logic behind this is trying to get as many giveaway entries as possible, to increase chances of winning.

Train is hidden behind simple puzzle and Jigidi (don't worry, it's below 100 pieces, I dislike having more to complete).
Road to Train Station
Train starts now with level 2+ and it ends 12 July, 15h CEST.

Train cargo:

  • !That Bastard Is Trying To Steal Our Gold!
  • David
  • 500 Years Act 1
  • Dark Shadows - Army of Evil
  • Luna Sky [L3+]
  • Insectophobia : Episode 1 (10 copies) Steam store page
    (from 10 copies => 1 is whitelist & group exclusive [L1+], 1 limited to Turkey [L1+] [because it's Turkish game], 8 limited only by levels - splitted into 2 for Level 3+, 2 for Level 4+, 2 for Level 5+, 2 for Level 6+)

Take care.

In what order do you enter giveaways?

View Results
First GAs of wishlisted games
First GAs that soon will expire
First GAs hidden on discussions
First GAs with multiple copies
First GAs limited to my region
First GAs from Steam groups
First GAs only for people from whitelist
First GAs that take higher amount of points
First GAs that have the shortest giveaway time (e.g. 1h flash GAs)
First GAs with low points cost (trying to get as many GA entries as possible)
First GAs of unbundled games
Other (not covered in options above)
I don't do it. I have auto-join script. / F_ck this poll.

I enter wishlisted giveaways first, then check the forums for anything interesting, and then if I have any spare points I usually dump them into giveaways that have a few weeks left. That way, if I can't enter all the games I actually want, I can just reclaim my points from those giveaways. It's a way of going over the 300 point limit to let points keep growing when you have nothing worth entering.
There's lots of stuff I want so I'm usually gonna need those points that I put away

First and only games from wishlist, unless I'll find a game I didn't know (but I add it to wishlist anyway) :)

Same. I almost never enter a giveaway unless the game is on my wishlist. That means I usually have about 20 entries in total and 300 points at any given time. This changes when one of my wishlisted games floods the site (e.g. Karma), and then I spend my points as quickly as they spawn.

This. I honestly can't remember the last time I ran out of points, probably been a year or two.

This thread link is

There is "unique id" for it being "hdj9t" part of URL.

You need to find other thread and copy it's "code".

Nah... A large wish list would be at least four digits.

I have only 3 sites of giveaways, so I join every giveaway that exist.

Sounds complicated. I just go to the forums first and check for new giveaways there because there are way less entries. Then I just enter everything I am interested in from the public list in order of what ends first, and hide everything I'm not interested in until the list is empty or I run out of points.

Depending on what I'm doing I might keep the site open on one of my extra monitors to check out the 1 hour giveaways that pop up during the day.

I don't. I stopped entering giveaways about 6 months ago. If I do enter a giveaway, it must be for an extremely special game. I'm still waiting.

I don't share the "it's free so I must enter everything" type of thought process.

I didn't said that. I do have a big wishlist though and i enter most games i find appealing also.
And i also try to play all the games i win. Well i believe i am at 80%.

I know you didn't say that exactly. I added that as extra because it's something I hear a lot as you are not the first one to ask me a similar question. I don't find a lot of things appealing, I have very niche interests and I have enough games to play. My wishlist is also tiny. I just don't feel the need to add more and more to my already appealing library which I am currently happy with. Besides I'd rather buy what I can than win games here.

I have 100% played all my wins. I'm glad you are playing them too.

Wishlists
then recommended and invite-only GAs
then interesting games that are not in any of above

I enter the GAs for games I want to play, despite the chance of winning, because there's always one winner, right, why not me then? =P

I only ever enter for stuff I truly want now. The order is as follows.

Region Restricted & Group first
then multiple copy giveaways
then Level 5, Level 4, and so on.

At which point do you usually run out of points? :)
Well, I assumed you do :p
If you have such specific order, you want to "maximize winning", right?

I do want to maximize winning, but the site hates me.
"Overall, you've been unlucky, and won 18 less gifts than estimated since you first joined."

And I rarely run out of points, but I do spend them down to 0 before I go to bed or work.

I mostly enter based on what's ending soonest, though generally with hidden games I don't have many giveaways to enter so how I enter giveaways doesn't really matter.

Order huh? I just browse the giveaways for something that looks interesting enough to join for but not high profile enough to upset the giver if it turns out I'm not overly excited by the game in the end. I tend to stay away from forum giveaways for the most part

Wishlist -> Recommended

I don't actively search discussions, but if I stumble across a wishlisted gib I'll join it probably

Atm I only enter wishlisted games. When I see a game on a train I didn't know about and like it, I'll normally add it to my wishlist and then continue browsing only that.

Whitelist giveaways, sometimes group. Mostly whitelist. Only what I really, really, really want.
The end result is I barely enter a dozen giveaway a month.

Check the first few entries for anything interesting, wishlist, recommended, check recent discussion list.

Wishlist, Recommended, Group, Public - in that order. Invite only/forum/trains in the mix when I see them but no specific order for those.

I used to run out of points fairly often even though I only enter games I really want to play. Now the only time that happens is if there are a lot of copies of a game that's 40-60 points per entry. Learning about bundle sites and isthereanydeal have helped me expand my library, so my wishlist had shrunk a lot at one point.

I browse everything other than wishlist mostly so I can find games that look interesting that I hadn't heard of before, and most of those I do find end up on my wishlist now.

I only enter wishlisted and multiple copies giveaways
and sometimes private giveaways made by my friends

no particular order, just follow the list till I run out of points

Erh... I look throught a single remaining page of public GAs (sometimes two of them), enter maybe couple of them, hide some. If I find anything interesting among forum GAs, I enter them as well. What can I say, I rarely go below 250 points.
