Games are for Wii U and 3DS and can only be redeemed in North, Central and South America.

What do you guys think of this ? I own neither a Wii U or a 3DS so I'm not interested in the bundle but I think it is a cool idea, or at least it would have been if it was not only for America. Also I would have prefered if this was a weekly bundle, now I have to wait 2 weeks again :(

LOL WHY AREN'T WE SELLING GAMES AT A PREMIUM TO EVERYONE. This is actually very smart business. Why sell a product for next to nothing to everybody? Sell it to a few, make em examine the product and if they truly want one then you buy it for the actual price.

You're all just greedy as always, entitled too. It's fine.

Bundles are about making profit and advertising as much as charity. The higher number of sales compensates for the lower price.
They don't region lock their products because they think it's fun to screw with their customers - consoles still rely heavily (albeit ever less so) on physical sales and local retailers want to maximize their profits. Good news for you, Nintendo's planning to drop it for the next console, if they can.

Worst bundle yet...
"The Humble Nindie Bundle is region-locked and can only be redeemed on North, Central, and South American Wii U and 3DS consoles (with the exception of Brazil). See full list of countries here."

Not only are they restricting the platform, but they are also restricting it only to America. Absolutely horrible.

Well they were also restricting the platform before, it's just that the platform happened to be PC.
I don't have a problem with them doing a Nintendo bundle, it's just the region locking that bothers me.
And I think it would have been better to have this as a weekly, but I suppose Nintendo would not have agreed to this.

they were restricting the platform to pc? you mean like, not giving games for linux and mac, or not giving games for consoles etc? O.o

Linux is still PC. Mac - well, I guess people died for less than in holy war if Mac is Personal Computer or Spawn of Hell :P

They also made tons of Android Bundles, but (at least as far as I remember?) no Windows Phone Bundle...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What ? Macs are PCs (yes they are now, deal with it Apple fanboys) and Linux distributions run on PCs.
So yes, I meant consoles, I don't think they have ever sell a console game before

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

but why would they? and even if they want to, it's weird to put it as the main bundle. they could have made a seperate bundle like how they do the mobile bundles.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why would they not ? They are so many bundles for PC, that's nice to get some cheap games for consoles too.
I would also have preferred if it was not the main bundle, but I don't think they had the choice, Nintendo was probably only ok to do it for a main bundle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

first of all, the trick of consoles is treating your customers like cashcows. can you see frequent sales for console games? i know i don't. even the base prices are not same with pc games mostly. so you won't see sony or nintendo to jump into this with a great enthusiasm. maybe nintendo needed this for some good pr, like how ea needed and did with the origin bundles. but i highly doubt sony will be on board with the bundle idea. so what you will see won't have much variety and won't be great bundles imo. secondly humble bundle started as a bundle site for drm-free pc (and mac) indie games afaik. so it has a corresponding customer base. which means PC (and mac) gamers. not console gamers. so the backlash shouldn't be much of a surprise. especially if they'll put it as the main bundle.

edit: looks like i forgot to mention xbox. i guess you got the idea so... yeah. whatever.

Macs are of course computers, and very personal if I may add. They always were, deal with it. As you may know, Linux runs in every toaster these days, even in ps2 which is a console. Definitions evolve.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed, definitions evolve. PC originally meant Personal Computer, then it meant IBM-compatible computer, then a computer with a CPU using the x86 architecture. Macs were not PC because they had a CPU with a different architecture, but now they use Intel CPUs.
And yes I know that Linux is everywhere and not only on computers.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Close - it was "IBM-PC" (then IBM-PC-JR, etc.) after the 80x86 clones came along and got labeled "PC Compatible" as opposed to Apple Macintosh, Commodore 64, and others.

Archetecture-wise, you'd be talking Intel vs Motorola, which is also blurred today. :)

Permalink

We called them "IBM Compatibles". All home computers (non-business mainframe or workstation) were always "Personal Computers" (PC's)

I think that he means not giving games to consoles, but you also have a good point; now we all get to feel like Linux/ Mac users do on many occasions.

Permalink

but it's not humble bundle's fault. humble bundle can't decide a game to be on linux and mac or not. ;_;

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You have some good points, but either way, restricting games to PC is not the same as restricting them to Nintendo's latest consoles, out of which the Wii U has only sold about 9.2 million units since it came out. In comparison, Steam has 75 million active users, add the fact that the bundle is restricted to America and you have a very niche bundle that, as you have said, shouldn't have been a main bundle, but a weekly or maybe a flash one.

Don't blame humble bundle.Blame Nintendo shitty region lock......They've been promising to remove it since last year but nothing has changed.
On side note: The bundle is actually good. 5 games for 3DS which is the best selling console for only 9.24$ is hella a good deal.I'd have bought it but i don't own a 3DS.....yet considering that Most of it's titles price are equal to console game prices despite being a handheld.Plus extra 5 WII U games (more coming soon) is good as-well.If you own either one or both consoles the deal is very good.

Still better than The Banner Saga bundle was during 14 days of Bundles event. You paid 1$ for artworks, BTA was stuff for the free version and something artworkish again, and then fixed (~ -20-30% from retail price) was the full game - also, full game made BTA's free version's DLC obsolete, so it was just a little complex discount for the game with additional artwork smacked with it :D

Nintendo didn't region lock these codes specifically for the bundle, all codes for the eShop are and have always been region locked. It's just usually not a problem because you usually only buy your codes from the eShop. It would have been cool if they had a "pick your region" thing in the bundle but I'm not surprised they didn't redo their entire shop system just for a sale.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They already have a system in place.

TUG has an option of either Steam key or their own launcher when you buy it. The bundle with Influent in it required you to choose and commit to one language out of their lineup.

The Sega bundle had different games depending on where it was bought (Sonic Racing for Germans, Typing of the Dead for everyone else). Don't tell me they couldn't set this up.

OK, fuck em, forget anything good I may have previously typed. It is proabably Nintendo's fault for the region locking though given their history
