I'm planning on purchasing a gaming PC next month. I am closed on everything but the GPU. Which should I get at my price range? (around $185)

Which should I get?

View Results
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X OC Dual-X 2GB
Asus Radeon R9 270 DirectCU II 2GB
Wait for R9 300 series
Other (please comment)

Not sure even when the 300 series comes out if any of them will be around your price range. Obviously go for the 270X over the 270... or cut down on some other costs and get a better GPU. If you post a full budget + parts list I could help you out.

I also don't know when 300 series is going to come out, but I would wait until it's out. Not to buy it, but because 200 series might get a price drop.

Ok, here's some things you can probably cut down on already.
The aftermarket CPU cooler is unneeded... Intel stock coolers aren't that bad, especially since you aren't getting an overclockable CPU anyway.
Also, I'm not sure about what fans your case already comes with, but you shouldn't need an extra case fan if your case already has 1 or 2 fans.
For the keyboard and mouse, try to get the cheapest ones you can get that still work. A good computer is always better than a good keyboard + mouse.
For RAM, I'm not sure if the G.Skill RAM is your cheapest option since it generally isn't... but just remember cheap RAM is good RAM since it rarely ever fails anyway.

There might be some cheaper alternatives to some of the parts you have but I'm not sure about where you live... maybe if you created a pcpartpicker list it could help.

Why are you getting a CPU cooler with a non-K series Intel CPU? You won't need that CPU cooler at all.

The case also doesn't seem to look all that high-quality, I recommend spending a bit more on the case as it will be with you for a long time while you upgrade the components inside.

Why aren't you investing more in a quality full tower? Like the Corsair 230T or the Corsair 300R for example? Any reason you're going micro-ATX?

I think you can get a GTX 960 close to there or even better a 280X.

Try a R9 280 (without X)

here in brazil it was cheaper than the 270X. and i dont need to say the 280 is better than the 270X

If you don't mind spending a bit more, you could get this for ~$200. You also get Batman: Arkham Knight with it.

Worth it... comes with AAA game... now I wish I waited to buy a 970 instead of getting it when it came with a Ubicrap game. -.-

The 300 series are rumored to be q2 or q3. If you don't want to wait then the 270x.

I think GeForce GTX 760 will be better. Also, benchmark say the same thing, check it :)
I can also post a link to a russian website with detailed review (but you could understand it cause all results on graps), there is comparison between GeForce GTX 760, Radeon R9 270X, Radeon R9 270, and Sapphire Dual-X R9 270 Boost.

GG, apparently my 970 > a Titan Z.

However, the R9 280 shouldn't be that much more than a 270X.

it seems only 25 scores have been submitted for Titan Z compared to 7000 scores for 270X. so the Titan Z score may not be reliable yet

I'd suggest waiting for the 300 series to come out, because the last generation card's prices are going to fall.

The price drop will almost be insignificant on lower performance cards (as I want to believe at least :D )

I remember when the 9XX series dropped on nVidia's side the prices of most older cards fell, but don't quote me on it.

I really don't know all we can do is wait and see :)
Well there sure will be price drops but the whole point is whether they are worth the wait or not

270X or wait for 300 series.

Wait for 300. If even a quarter of what they say about DirectX 12 and the new AMD chips are true, buying a DX12-compatible GPU would be better than anything on the market now.

I agree, It will probably be at least $100 more than he wants to spend.

Every series has a low- mid- and high range category. And as I said, even if a fraction is true, a 330 may beat a 270 in performance.

I'd recommend getting a Nvidia GPU.I know it'd cost way more. However,They offer updates before any AAA titles release (AMD drivers are less frequent and usually released after launch) plus most of the recently released titles (GTA V,The witcher 3) had many issues with AMD GPU which have been solved later on.If you insist on getting an AMD then wait for 300 series line up In worst cases their prices might be away from your Budget but at-least they will cause price drop on older cards.

uhm saw your post with the prices of gpus in your country, at that price try to find a 270x or a 280, look for a deal, maybe a store that's putting stuff on sale to get the new 300 series or just shop online if there are better prices. :)

the 380 will be a 285 rebrand, look for the price of the 285 as well :)

Nope no game, but be careful with nvidia cards as well, the game is included only when bought from certain sellers as you can see here: http://www.geforce.com/games-applications/pc-games/batman-arkham-knight/bundle
Looks like the deal with the Witcher 3 is over and now you get batman.
In Italy there was a massive difference in price between amazon and the sellers who offered the game, which amounted to the actual cost of the game XD

Edit: You can see if it could cost less buying it online, but you have to see if it's worth it after shipping and custom taxes ^^

I personally am using a r9 290x and my brother has a r7 270x dual x 4gb and they are good BUT if due to business issues inside the gaming industry i would suggest you go for nVidia
Why? Well my brother is running Witcher 3 on ultra with 270x and gets 55FPS but using a nvidia would be better.....even the god damn settings of the game are to turn nvidia options on and off which means that the game would perform way much better on a nvidia gpu (there are lots of other games like this)
Im not saying that AMD is bad but simply games work better with nvidia cos of....reasons ($$$)
