I'm not really certain. Might be worth looking into getting a handheld system of some kind, you can be sure those will work. Not sure about the newer stuff, but both PSP and DS have some great stuff in their libraries.

I would, but my old DS is long gone & money is going to be tight for a month or so :( My bf and I were discussing getting 3DS's.

A shame. My own PSP and DS were stolen several weeks ago, I miss playing them. Still got most of the games.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm sorry to hear that. I don't see why anyone would steal those unless they have a really bad habit.
The Phoenix Wright games were awesome.

Yeah, along with several games. The worst things were the Pokemon Black inside my DS (because dozens of hours and events on it I can't get back) and the PSP being linked to my PSN accounts (some of the games only working on a single system because of a glitched deal Sony never fixed).

Lol my puppy stepped on the screen of my laptop and broke it. I have a tablet though
Gaming laptops, nowai, I'm not blowing $2k on something for it to be destroyed by heat. I love building PC's too much
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe higher end gaming laptops have better cases/airflow, but they also have higher end components which suck more battery power and release more heat.
Plus I like being able to upgrade and fix my own PC.
Comment has been collapsed.
PC of course is better than a laptop, but I don't see you taking your PC to a hotel, so laptop would be a good option. My MSI GT70 doesn't heat at all, it remains cool even when playing demanding games. Yes, it's not even close to PC price/performance ratio, but for 1.5k$ I have acceptable performance, can play most games maxed out at 1080p and I have portability. Battery lasts 5-6 hours when not gaming and 2-3 hours when gaming. I know a PC is better, but you have to decide for yourself if portability is important for you and if it wasn't, you wouldn't have made this thread.

I only need portability for about 6 weeks though :/

I know the place has HDTV's in the rooms (and kitchens, yaay) but I'm concerned about them locking up the inputs :/
Comment has been collapsed.
If that's even possible, I don't know why they'd go to that much trouble, or if they'd even know how to do it.
Just call and ask, man. Be kind and friendly to someone at the front desk. They don't have a dog in the fight. Most of them will be straight with you (if they know).

I could probably bring it with you, but the question is really how much you trust the staff at the hotel. I honestly don't recommend it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not too concerned about having my stuff stolen, it's the norm to bring expensive stuff like laptops, tablets, etc. with you, especially on business.
Comment has been collapsed.
Your choice man, whenever I travel I have a laptop, tablet, kindle, and a camera with me. When I leave the hotel, I take as many things as I could with me and lock away anything I don't need. To me a console is difficult to store on the go so I'd leave it at home.
Then again, this is steam gifts. Bring your PC and hit up that backlog!

You'll probably be ok, although I have stayed in places that pretty much padlock the tv in place. If I had to get round the back to plug stuff in on such a tv I'd have had problems. Would depend on where the inputs are.
Many moons ago I did rent a Dreamcast for a weekend and had it hooked up to a hotel room tv.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I would definitely get a 3DS if I had the money atm :( I haven't even gotten a paycheck yet, hence my giveaway
Comment has been collapsed.
The real question is - how much do you trust staff of hotel? There are lots of places where staff thinks they can take your things or even money from your wallet you forgot at hotel when you went out somewhere. But you can always look for a hotel that has safe or something like that in it's rooms. Or leave "Do not disturb" on your door knob. But think about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Considering how many maids are almost treated like slaves and they really need this shitty extremely underpaid job I doubt they'd do something as obvious as stealing a console.
Comment has been collapsed.
it depends on the quality of hotel you go to, but it is pretty likely that if they have wifi they're going to have RCA jacks on their TV's. The last hotel I stayed at, rented out consoles and games at the front desk but had no problem with a person bringing their own.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's a pretty high end hotel, it has wifi, HDTV's and stuff like that. Thanks for letting me know :) I might honestly just call tomorrow, hopefully they're as accommodating as the hotel you were at.

You wrote that, not me...i just wrote exactly because i mostly couldnt read what you write :) and your answer now shows who has a complex...have some consoles too...the value thing was a joke because of the ps4 which comes soon and a ps3 isnt so expensive anymore ;) you did interpret something completely other in it i think :)...
But youre somehow right...i dont like the newer gens from microsoft and sony...if it is xbox1/ps2/ps3/xbox360/ps4/xboxone...but i love the ps1 and snes :P and my gameboy...and Skate 3 on my xbox 360 :D
So...yes...yes...the PC is superior in all terms...when you think i have a complex because of a joke :) your thing :P

Why, because the housekeepers might take it? Anything of value missing from your hotel room can be reported to the hotel and the offending housekeeper will almost definitely be fired and searched [and maybe in that order, too :P].
Experience: I work as a housekeeper in one of the cheapest hotels in my town.

OP one post above: "It's a pretty high end hotel".
Also note experienced person below. Fears basically unfounded.

A friend of mine left his smartphone in his room for 2 hours ( it was charging ), and when he got back, the phone was gone. Note that he was staying at a 4 star hotel and he never got it back, even after reporting the incident to the hotel manager and making a serious sweep through the hotel's staff.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But it doesn't happen as often as folks might think. There are anecdotes shared with me all the time. I can tell more on those that have never had a problem. Those that have, obviously, speak loudly about it.
Also a little harder to disguise a PS3 in a pocket. ;)
Also less likely to be noticed/messed with if stored in a bag before/after use.

I used to travel all the time for work myself, and i always brought a 360 and 80% of the time I could hook it up to the hotel tvs. I also had a projector I brought with me and i would pull pictures off the wall and hang sheets to the wall :P nothing like 144" Call of Duty 2vs2 matches.

I'm pretty sure you can. Just make sure not to leave your console lying around, like Multy25 said.

Dude, that's the exact same thing I did back in the day when I was training to be an insurance agent. I took my xbox to the hotel and played AssCreed 2 until I passed out. Fun times. And yeah, there's usually a TV there. My hotel was a four star one and it sported a big flat bastard. Don't know if it was HD or not though, because I didn't have an HDMI cable with me, but if your PS3 can be connected to older TVs too then sure, it's worth a try.

I took my PC to a hotel for a week's stay. I had work to do and don't believe in laptops. People in the elevator gave me strange looks. They were holding towels for the pool and I was holding a monitor and an uninterruptible power supply.
The television might be permanently affixed to whatever it's mounted on. But I wouldn't expect the inputs to be physically blocked. It won't hurt to call the hotel and ask though.
Also, how big is your "puppy" if it breaks screens?
Comment has been collapsed.
Holy crap! That's awesome! I've never seen anything like that before except the good ol' psone with the screen thing.

They are great, I have the original versions called the G155... if I end up where I am traveling a lot I intend to get the "Vanguard" version. (Bigger screen, higher resolution) but they do nicely. Still requires a power source of course but definitely worth it if you do a lot of travel and like to keep your console with you. Can also put a padlock on either latch if you wish.

I stayed in a hotel about two years ago, I can't remember exactly what kind of TV was there but I think it might have been a smallish CRT thing. Anyway, I was there for a week so my friend brought over his NES and we played that. Unless there's some kind of cable box or something that uses up the ports which you can't unplug (I have no idea how cable works) I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it. I doubt it'd be an electricity thing, hotels provide power points expecting you to bring your phone charger or laptop or hair straightener or whatever so I don't see why they'd plug up the tv ports so you can't plug your console in.
Comment has been collapsed.
Here is the catch. A lot of the place use wall mounts that have VERY little room behind them. Depending on the exact model of the TV and the mount the ports may technically be available to use but impossible to reach with normal sized hands and arms.

Brought my Xbox to many hotels. If it isn't a super cheap hotel then it most likely will have HDTV's or TV's with hookups for your console at least. Best thing to do is call and ask what kind of TV's they have.
Never had a problem with people stealing anything either. I always packed it up before I left and put it one of the drawers.

The night before my wedding, I took my xbox 360 and plugged it in no problemo. Just make sure if you have HDMI to take a scart cable incase the hotels tv's don't have HDMI insert.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why exactly? His wife seems to be a gamer too so where is the problem?
Comment has been collapsed.
she IS also a gamer. BUT, i took the traditional route of sleeping in separate properties and booking a hotel with my groomsmen and not seeing her until the wedding for a couple of days. No, gaming wasn't involved for about 2 weeks after the wedding ;)

Hai guys.
So I got a new job doing lab work for clinical trials, but I am going to be hours away from home for weeks at a time in a hotel during my training phase.
Is it likely that I'll be able to hook up my PS3 to the TV there? My friend said some hotels have boxes you unplug and then the TV's ports work like normal.
And of course, any other advice for keeping sane would be welcome
I promise it's Skyrim
