I'm just wondering how GAs will work now that region restrictions have become so strict.

Refer to the rule:
"Do not submit CD-keys or Steam gifts that have regional restrictions, or those that require VPN activation or methods to bypass regional restrictions."

(Any?) Games bought on steam is now restricted. However, games bought outside the steam store, i.e. Humble Bundle and similar stores, are not region restricted. But I still figure that the new steam rule combined with this SG rule is going to noticeably lower the number of GAs - so what options do we have??

SG could add a region box when creating GA, which could work - Anyway that is the only suggestion I can come up ATM.

What are your thoughts and/or ideas on this matter?

I think that adding a Region checkbox (and a way for users to set their own region, so they only see games in that region) is a good approach. Blanket-banning all regional games made sense back when region-locked titles were few and far between, but now that every single game purchased in eg. the Russian Steam store is region-locked, the rule makes it hard for anyone outside of the top-priced regions to use SG at all.

It might create more work for support, though, in that people would often make mistakes picking what regions a gift is available for.

Nuuvem keys are generally region free unless the site warns otherwise.

Just bought GTA vice city from there, and there wasn't any warning on the webpage, but I can't activate it because I'm in the US.

Any games bought in US/EU Steam store can still be gifted to anyone. They just can't get gifts from the locations that get games dirt cheap like Russia.

The region box would be a good idea. I'd love to hear cg's thoughts on this whole region lock thing and if changes are going to happen to sg or what it's future holds now.

Two problems with the region box: It's complicated. How do people know if it's RU only, or US only, etc. etc. There will be SO many tickets asking that. And the topic of CV. Do region locked games count towards CV? What would stop someone from giving away 3 copies of something like Dark Souls, which they got for what was it, 1 cent? It would leave quite a bit of room open to exploitation, which CG is trying to avoid as much as possible, I think.
