I would define "free" as something which I don't lose anything in obtaining.
The only argument I can think of which makes breathing not free would be that energy is spent inhaling and exhaling, energy which is got from food, which we must pay for.

I love the free games, is like "Oh, im poor, i can't have this game..." "NO PROBLEM, TAKE A FREE COPY" and this is why y love this game.
