I just came across Hidden Through Time (through the Steam Discovery Queue) and immediately though it was from the same guys who made Hidden Folks. It isnt. (Source: https://steamcommunity.com/app/435400/discussions/0/3557193237110632566/#c1744518767210001403)
The Dev of Hidden Folks doesnt seem to mind.

Personally I think this is really lame game developping. Ofcourse there are numerous games where gaming elements are copied. But this... for me this looks almost like a 1 on 1 copy. Mechanics, artwork, gameplay... all the same. The only thing they changed is using colours.

Your thoughts?
Anyone got more examples of shameless copying?

It has a map editor which is an interesting feature that Hidden Folks doesn't have.

I saw this, too. So, I added it to watch, anyway.
Actually, it's may be more a thing about the similar aesthetics being confusing.

The story mode is fairly short so the map editor really helps to prop the game up.

Why should he? Idea itself is nothing new.

This basically, it's not a perfect copy, it's just the same idea which isn't original either nor did Hidden Folks start it.

Found him! ^^

And yeah, I don't really see the copypasta claim. We had these games in our tv guide when i was a kid and i am ancient!

If it was just the idea I would agree.
Game mechanics, animations, style, it's all the same to me. That's what bothers me.

It's easy to get the idea that HTT is a sequel to Hidden Folks, I suppose that's intentional marketing. It's a fun enough game on its own, even if the user-made levels so far are 90% achievement boosting garbage (that I used to boost my achievements, but dutifully downvoted..).

Shameless copy? I see different games using the idea of "Where is Waldo?" (hope the english name was right - its "Findet Walter" in germany) and adding some interactive elements. Some of the games are black and white, some others with colors. If you think this is a shameless copy, you never looked into some magazines right?

You might look a bit further than just the concept. Which is fine to me.
There are more similarities between the games than just the "find Waldo" idea.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

but really if its just a flat copy then i cant see it doing well
its like making a sequel for the game without offering something new

Feel the same, but I like it anyway.

At least it has colors. Not a freaking black and white that destroys my eyes.

Remember Saints Row? Zelda clones, Metroidvanias, the list goes on. Nothing wrong with people copying other people, it happens all the time.

Just think if only one person has the freedom of right to something; where there is no competition, no more innovation, no more creative improvement.
I for one appreciate when I find another game that's similar to a game I really like. Maybe it will be better, or maybe it will have something that is unique about it. I would hope that if the "original game" designer sees that, they will take it as a challenge to improve on their game(s), and be encouraged to do more as well. I think healthy competition is good.

I suppose it's the similar naming that ticks you off, not exactly the copying of idea or mechanics. It IS a shady way to grab attention, pretending to be a sequel.
