Ignoring doesn't solve the core issue - it's merely an attempt at curing the symptoms. If a person is causing trouble, that person should be suspended. If the mods aren't suspending the correct people, it's more a question of training the mods better.

If you really want to ignore people, there are scripts that allow you to do that (like ESGST, SGIgnore...). I don't see cg implementing this, unfortunately.

But staff in this site is something that should be seriously looked at by cg. Some mods are really bad at what they do and one-sided, and give a bad name to other good mods.

I will never understand why bumping a thread every minute do not count as spam...

Maybe until something is implemented we can just create a mental ignore list and mentally hit a button in our brains that say... ignore this...

It's a good skill to learn too to use IRL... just don't allow things to get to you and instead of jumping into the argument/fight just ignore...

I see the benefits... no cons...

Just a suggestion in the meantime...

There's only so much a small team mod can do to support a site with thousands of hourly visitors. Implementing something like this can seriously tone down the drama and also reduce the ticket spam mods are faced with.

TLDR: +1

It sounds like a great idea in theory - but in practice I'm pretty sure it would just lead to people 'ignoring' people and then using their own threads to criticise those people without them being able to reply. Which has become one of the main ways of passing time on another website that I use since the feature was implemented.

I think you are missing the point. For instance under your proposed rules I could 'ignore' somebody so that they couldn't reply but I could still make a new thread calling them out or 'satirising' them or a serious issue they care about or accidentally leaving their name in quote accusing them of being the cancer that is killing steam gifts or whatever else.

It works if people are actually going to be mature and ignore each other. It doesn't work if people are just going to try and use it to get digs in at each other without the other person replying.

All of my hypothetical examples were of things that could happen in the description of a new thread that somebody had made - I apologise if I did not make that clear. Your suggestion is that people who are ignored cannot comment in that persons threads so they wouldn't be able to reply in any of those instances - visible or otherwise.

I do apologise - I thought you were talking about the second of my points.

In that case I feel it is just the first of your suggestions that would be abused terribly. I have no issue with your second suggestion.

+1 for an ignore option, lotta people on here posting nothing worth reading. ive seen it on sites with a "reveal" button on the post to see what they said. something id personally never hit, i just chuckle when i see "hidden reply"

Especially since you can already collapse a comment in the forum so the feature could simply auto-collapse comments from your ignore list. It wouldn't require a big change.

Screw it, takes days / weeks and will then probably be closed

Totally agree. Have opened tickets for over 6 months wihout response. Also some more/better mods will be nice. We got some new mods the last months? I never saw them.
