Shogun 2 and Shogun 2 Fall of The Samurai

Why is fall of the samurai cheaper but it is a newer game and yet it is not a DLC, it is a new game.
What is better and why?
What should I buy?

I know that fall of the samurai has guns and american soldiers in but otherwise what are the differences.

Not a new game, not a DLC. It's a standalone addon.
You should also get the maingame, it's often on sale for only a few dollars.
Or just get FoTS and if you like it buy the maingame later :P The "Rise of the Samurai" DLC is cool too!

You don't get the original game with it and you can't use the other DLC with it I am pretty sure which is why its cheaper.

Also the original game has a ton of mods which make the game worth playing more than once.
