I think, strictly speaking, most of those games are less massive and more of online games.

That said, I suggest HAWKEN or MechWarrior Online... if you can get into closed beta for either. HAWKEN opens up 12.12.12 though. But I love MechWarrior Online so much more.

I'd suggest DC Universe Online for a F2P and Star Wars: The Old Republic for a P2P (although its going free to play in November I believe)

planetside 2

I love Champions Online. DCUO is not quite up my alley, though it does have the edge in a few cases.

TF2 is great, and Realm of the Mad God is always fun for a couple minutes.

World of Warcraft

depends on what you want... rpg, fantasy, etc...

Champions Online - awesome, lots of customizations... doesn't feel massive though cause it seems very solo oriented. cashshop for certain things, but not too bad.

SWTOR - freaking awesome! love it! going free to play. best scifi rpg mmo on the market. not too many players. fixed with the server mergers, but it still suffered a bit.

WoW - great game in the day, now it's kinda meh with the expansions.

Allods - very good wow clone, with steampunk feel, but has some cashshop items you need to really play.

Spiral Knights - neat. by sega, remember them? hack n slash. don't have to buy anything outright, but your playtime will be limited.

Forsaken World - mega awesome f2p! one of the best f2pmmorpgs! vampire race looks like david bowie! auto pathing which every mmo needs! built around daily quests... be prepared to do the same quest over and over and over and over and over and over...

C9 and anything else Perfect World - so much goldspam you won't enjoy any of the game.
