I'm thinking in extending SGtools with a new and huge functionality, but before implementing it I would like to know if people really is interested in the idea and will use it.

The idea is to make a more flexible filter for private giveaways, but what does that mean?

You'll be able to create a set of rules for your giveaway and input a private giveaway URL. People (and you) will use "login with steam" to identify themselves and the tool will give him the url if and only if they met all the restrictions.
Once a user is given a giveaway URL, he'll be flagged as a valid entry for that giveaway. When the giveaway finish the creator will be able to check if the winner is flagged as valid, if that is not the case you'll be sure that he got the url following the rules.

What kind of rules/filters will you be able to use?

    - Min/Max Steamgifts level

    - Min/Max raw sent gifts value
    - Min/Max real sent gifts value

    - Min/Max raw won gifts value
    - Min/Max real won gifts value

    - Min/Max raw sent gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max real sent gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max raw won gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max real won gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways

    - Maximum number of entries (number of times the tool will give the url)

    - Your suggestions / ideas.

    - Sent games / Won games ratio factor
    - Sent CV / Won CV ratio factor
    - Sent Real CV / Won real CV ratio factor

    - Whitelisted game since X days

The giveaway creator will be able to see in the tool's giveaway page a list of the people who got the giveaway link and a tool to check if an entry is valid as detailed before.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome, even those who think that this tool will be useless :)

Is it just formatting thing, that after checking tool shows things like "real won / send" ratio and so on with so many decimal numbers? It looks weird, when someone set rule "ratio 0,75" and we get as result 1.3521126760563. It could show just "1,35".

You mean a flat number? Like 10 more games or 100 more CV?

Yes, flat. Ratio doesn't really work fair for low numbers. 1 sent and 2 won make 0.5 ratio but it's just one game )

Min/Max for both cases: At least XXX or more sent then received and no more that YYY more received then won

Well I'd like to have stuff like "ratio 0,5 if won less than 100 AND ratio 0,9 if won more than 100".

If I set rule "ratio sent/won 0,7" it means that someone can have 7/10 and 200/285 ratio. Which is still "unfair" for me. So I like your idea :D

An afterthought, for ease of use cv difference could be presented as level in the range from -10.0 to +10.0

Can you elaborate on this?

8 years ago
Permalink

Value to check = Level( CVsent-CVwon ). Example:
CVsent==1000, CVwon==0 -> result == +7.00
CVsent==0, CVwon==1000 -> result == -7.00

It's for convinence only, as nearly nobody remembers exact $ values for each level but all have well defined what is "high" and "low" level

But levels are exponential, on a case like the one you describe it's easy but after that it gets strange:

Sent = 470
Won = 635

Sent - Won = -165 -> That is level -4.43

8 years ago
Permalink

It is intended effect. It puts imbalance on the same scale as normal levels are. I expect this rule to be used as "sorry, you win too much" or "you gift too much, have a cookie" kind of filter - exponential level plays nice with it.

For sure Account Age makes a lot of sense. I've added it as a requirement in several threads (WL recruit, Beer & Homebrewing quiz, Middle East GAs etc). I most cases I'm just looking for users that registered at least a month prior to request to join the group, as it helps filter out those who haven't learned the ropes yet.

I'm not sure about comments. I did experiment with GAs that target user with 0 GAs, 0 comments and many wins, adding them to my other list if they didn't read the GA description (but with a chance to redeem themselves with a single comment if they did bother to read). It doesn't align with my current view of Level 0 users, so not planning to do something similar in the near future. Things change.

Account age can be useful in some cases, so added to TODO list.

About comments, by themselves doesn't mean much, and since fetching giveaway entries since sgv2 means another parsing and there are quite alot of people who don't want posts on their GA's I think it won't be an interesting feature overall.

Would you ever consider some sort of key drop function? Or even a separate tool/site?

On the "orphan key thread" people are often trying to make their drops bot proof, ninja proof, or isn't even a member of SG proof seeing as anyone in the world can read the forum. I could see something like this tool helping.

How would it work? I've a couple of ideas:

  1. Create something that allows us to put the keys straight into the site which will also reveal them if the person meets the criteria. People would need the ability to drop keys no longer giveable on SG because the game was given for free, has gone F2P or removed from Steam itself. so no menu of games listing what the key was for would be possible (if using SG's giveaway list as reference) or needed on your side of things. People would have to just type in forums what the game was then give the SGtools link which would check them for eligibility. A bad thing about that is that it relies on your site hosting the keys which means extra data storage for you. Maybe people wouldn't trust you (knsys) not to hoover up all the keys for yourself although I probably would.

  2. In any potential key drop function allow the user to upload a link to an image hosting site. perhaps one of your choice so that nobody can put in nefaious phishing links etc. The image would be a screenshot of the key. SG tools would reveal the link of the image if the person met all the criteria chosen. This would save you hosting the actual keys on your site. Could be open to abuse by people uploading images of porn or gore instead of an image of key, but then there's nothing to stop anyone doing that here on the forums and they don't. plus it would have the user's name behind it so I'm sure they'd end up on a load of blacklists etc. which would be a deterrent.

Edit: I suppose there is a slighlty creative way it could already used for this kind of thing, providing SGtools still reveals the giveaway links of finished giveaways. I don't know if it does that? Could drop the key in the description of an already ended invite only giveaway (for any game, wouldn't matter if it's different from the key drop game) and let the tool do it's thing where it comes to who can see it. Don't have an already ended invite only giveaway you could use? Create one for any game to run for an hour and don't give the link out while it's running. When it's over it could be used to drop keys in.

Thanks for taking the time to make a complete and thorough suggestion.

As you already thought, sgtools is not the place to store game keys. Sgtools are a collection of tools to help understand or improve steamgifts on the parts that are not as powerful as they should. Taking care of keys it means making a step further into a terrain that is not natural for sgtools, so I think it's not a good idea.

You have several options to hide a keydrop, some of theme quite used here like a itstoohard puzzle with just one question that you get the response from the post, or linking an image, etc.

Using sgtools like you describe on a old GA is another option, right now it's working but I can't assure you it'll work on the future for already finished GA.

The "Invalid giveaway entries" report is a fantastic way to detect cheaters, but there are a couple of scenarios I can think of which may result in false positives:

  • The giveaway was first published in the forum as a regular invite-only GA, and later the link was replaced with one from SGTools
  • The direct link of the giveaway was shared by the giveaway creator in a private forum (e.g. a group forum)

In both cases listed users may end up blacklisted, but without actually doing anything wrong.

One possible way to minimize the likelihood of this issue would be to disable this report for giveaways that already had entries when the SGTools link was created.

Thoughts?

-leaked sg links accepted by SG Support ? (Support will decide what happens with these people ?)
-It's my (GA Creator) decision what happens with these people (ignore them,blacklist them,create a support ticket (including Sreenshots with usernames) ?

@knsys:
-If leaked SG Tools links are accepted by SG Support maybe it's possible to generate a HTML page with usernames (only visible for SG support,moderators & GA Creator) for faster processing these cases ?

-SG Support:increase of suspension time in case of recurrence ?

8 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Getting into a giveaway protected by sgtools without getting the url from sgtools is considered as leaked giveaway from SG support.

For the GA creator there is is a tool in "giveaway creator section of the GA" to look who entered without a valid sgtools link. In the case you find that someone entered and you didn't send him the url personally, that is a leaked entry.
If that leaked entry happens to win your GA, you can ask for a reroll for the giveaway using the list of valid entries that you can get through another function of "giveaway creator section of the GA", the "sgtools entries list".

It's easy to lose track of these details when you have 40 or so giveaways running at the same time, many of which for a period of more than a week.

And why isn't it fair? Once entered, all have equal odds of winning. Having different entry requirements for strangers vs people you know and trust sounds perfectly reasonable to me. With that said, I wouldn't do it for giveaways where I'm trying to give a certain group better odds. That's why the 650 members of my whitelist aren't going to get a chance at entering my Level-0-only giveaways, except for the few Level 0 users among them.

Something's amiss with the way CV is calculated still, as SG knows me as level 9.03 but SGTools puts me as 8.99.

Might have something to do with the several games I gave away more than 5 times on private GAs, especially the cases where the threshold of 5+ games was reached "in the middle" of a GA instead of between GAs? Or then just a disagreement over what is a bundled game?

Add a synch button like Steamgifts has for updating people who qualify between whenever caching of the SGTools site occurs. I gave away games that set me over the public giveaway threshold for the user's SGtools link and it took unitl the next day for the link to work for me even though I met the requirements the day before. That's an odd reply, because the issue is not with SGTools. It's with having multiple won giveaways of the same game on your account, which you now want to fix and should be able to. SGTools just provides an easy way for users to see this.

I understand the challenge, but in my opinion they should be able to fix this by forcing the giveaway creator to co-operate. For example, Support can tell them they need choose between a reroll or deletion of the giveaway.

For the reroll I think it would be reasonable for the giveaway creator to require a steam gift of the game rather than a key, to prevent the possibility of a bad key. After all, it would be completely unfair if they're forced to accept a reroll only to face issues with the new winner complaining that the key didn't work.

8 years ago*
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We literally can't force rerolls. As in, the functionality of the site doesn't give us that power. While we can force deletions (well, moderators can, but not Support), it's unfair to the giveaway creators. Most people were happy keeping these multiple wins in their profiles for years and years and the only reason they are requesting to fix this now is because of sgtools. You have no idea how many tickets we've seen pop up because of this in the past couple of weeks...

8 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I doubt people were happy about having multiple wins against their profile, but there was no obvious way to get rid of them (unlike for unactivated wins). The recent popularity in SGTools just raised this issue for discussion, so more people know what can be done and are trying to do the right thing. The problem is that lack of co-operation from giveaway creators leaves these users with tainted profile with no way to redeem themselves, and this is bad situation that needs to be corrected. I hope CG is aware of the issue and is looking into a fix.

8 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it's not lack of cooperation...
you don't know how hard is to deal with a reroll after 9 months... i had 1 reroll a few days ago, and i can't deliver the game to the new winner. all because the previous winner didn't know he already had the dlc, or maybe he thought he could keep entering GAs and trade the game for profit and no one would notice.

so, now i'm stuck with a reroll for 1 week, then i have to ask for another, hope the guy replies and accepts the gift. if not i have to repeat the process, waiting 1 week between tries till i finally ran out of winners, and maybe there i can get the stupid GA deleted (just 123 entries, maybe in 120 weeks i'll be done!).

i understand the frustration the winner has when a reroll is denied in cases like those big simultaneous GAs by devs where people won twice at the same time.
but when people abuse the system, i side with the GA creator, it means even more work for them because someone decided to break the rules.

8 years ago*
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you have to do it again and again, then it's not lack of co-operation. But refusing to give it even one chance sure is. That's what the user above is facing.

And I don't think people necessarily "decide to break the rules". The whole issue of multiple wins is very poorly documented. It's easy to unintentionally break the rules if you don't read discussions such as this in the forum and if you don't deduce what to do yourself.

This issue can and should be fixed. Dooming users to forever have their profiles tainted even if they're willing to purchase full price steam gifts for said games is beyond unfair.

Seems I have read people having that problem before, so maybe either try to better detect problems connection to SG or lower the refresh timeout for profiles that are at everthing=0 cause that might be due to SG probems?

What does Ratio for SG value (raw) of sent versus won GAs stand for, and how is it different from:

Also, is there a minimum or maximum associated with this filter and with Ratio for number of sent versus won GAs?

Raw ratio uses raw sent and won calculation from steamgifts profile. That means full value for bundles

Real CV uses real cv, so real sent and real won using the same values you'll find if you go to the check cv part of the site.

No, there is no maximum version for "ratio real" and "ratio number"

Any ideas what might cause that? I have tried several times. I first tried the first one (500-error) 2-3 times, then the second one that worked straight away, no problem, then the third one (problems again), and then I have tried the first and third one alternating times without any luck, so it wasn't that the server ran problem free from the beginning and then started acting up.

The system detects region restricted + private giveaways as public. Do you think you could fix that?

Region restricted giveaways are impossible to parse for sgtools, since the giveaway information is hidden, only the "not for your region" message can be read.

Nothing sgtools can do about it, sorry.

In that case, would it be possible to add region restriction filters? For example: I make a private giveaway on SG, then add it to SGTools with a region restriction filter so that only people from the region I set will be able to generate the link.

The problem is that SGTools can't check what's inside because steamgifts don't let him enter due to region lock.

So it's not possible to check what country the person is from? That's unfortunate. Thanks for your time.
