Hello everybody.

Halloween is coming.

So, in order to spend my evenings, i am searching for scary, spooky, bloody, horror movies or series.
And I mean good ones of course, because in the ocean of horror movies, sadly a few ones are really interesting.

I prefer horror with a fantastic side.

My favourite of all time is Alien. Because the creature is fascinating, the movie well directed, and it doesn’t age.
I can also recommend : The Descent, 28 Days Later, It Follows, The Conjuring series, AQuiet Place.

So, I’m waiting for your recommandations :)

I'd wait for the new adaptation of Pet Sematary, I think it can only get better.

It's a remake so, no. No it can't.

I was very positively surprised by the remake of IT, so I'll keep my hopes up.
[Imagine a standard phrase here about Pet Sematary film adaptation being disappointing compared to book]

Yes, the It remake was better than the original for me.
Maybe i'm not a purist.

From my point of view, I wouldn't necessarily say better, just different. Both Curry and Skarsgård delivered terrific performances within their different interpretations of Pennywise and somehow, the book version of him feels like it could be either of them.
That being said, the ending of the mini series was rather ridiculous...

Trailer is out and i love it!

Okay, it doesn't seem to have too much to do with the book anymore, but that's the case anyways with a LOT of movies and series based on the works of King.

Everyone has its own definition of Horror... but i would like to suggest some H.P. Lovecraft inspired movies...:

Dagon 2001
Cthulhu 2007
The Call of Cthulhu 2005
The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu (Comedy)

Google searchlist...:

There are some movies from the 70s/80s too wich are realy good too but hard to watch for some people in the modern days... problem is i forgot the name of these... :(

I have yet to encounter a proper movie adaptation sufficiently capturing the works of Lovecraft.

i forgot the name but theres a movie about that fisher town wich is controlled by the fishlike monsters + a hidden god... from all movies that was the one that was very close to his books...

Likely Dagon - it's very heavily based on Shadow Over Innsmouth

yes it's like Dagon but an older version of it... it's about a couple making a trip and ending in that town, after a while they get split up... i try to search it later on google... very atmospheric... :)

when i was young i liked Stephen King stuff... but it got borig after a while, at least the video versions... few years ago i started to discover the Cthulhu myth and then the rest of Lovecrafts stuff... atm his version of horror (the unkown and the bigger not understandable) is my favorit... i like his stuff about reanimations and eternal life things too, but the big unkown is triggering me most... :3

I agree that first Alien probably the best in this genre. And some recommandations (tried to remember those haven't yet mentioned): Jeepers Creepers, Mirrors, Grave Encounters, The Visit. Not the best films, but maybe you'll like something.

You'll like Jeepers Creepers, especially part 2, if you're into horror that makes you laugh more than it scares you.

Halloween(2018) sits atop my list of must-see horror films.
Apparently John Carpenter said it's the one film that tops the original.

He is very good in this. I will warn you that it starts slow (first 2 eps establishing things) but then ramps up. Very worth the wait.

Btw, if you haven't seen it, The Devil's Backbone is one of Del Toro's earliest movies and one of his best imo.

  • Moon (2009) Very good
  • Snowpiercer (2013) Very good
  • Life (2017) Pretty good

Upgrade is likely my biggest surprise of the year, expected it to be okay/trashy but fun, turned out to be awesome with great production values

Me too, Thought it had some really fresh takes. Production value was insane, had a 3-5 million budget and looked better than most $100 million blockbusters. Also found it really cool that the opening titles weren't text, but audio. I wished more people saw it at the cinemas.

Np i have a boatload of movies that aren't well known but still good for horror fans from the 80's classics to today's crap but they are still some good ones coming out now and then the market is wide open so we are flooded with b-movies from every country, but still the best are US/Canadian and some of the craziest movies are Japanese, i still got 100's i haven't got around to yet, gonna have to hire somebody to watch them for me ;) i have a list of my movies somewhere but its incomplete didn't update it for a year but theres thousands of movies already on the list all the best horror/gore ever made are on it for sure.

Dagon is a bit cheesy and funny Lovecraftian horror movie. Then there is the classic Night of the Living Dead and the still good but a bit goofy Dawn of the Dead. Also +1s to Alien, The Thing and The Mist which were mentioned previously ^^
