I don't usually watch many horror movies, the ones I end up watching usually don't do it for me (mostly because I watch the bad ones), but thanks for the giveaway!

Horror/Thriller is actually my preferred genre when watching a movie so after having reviewed all the other comments... I will try to not repeat and also give some recommendations on some gems (that is <20,000 IMDB ratings):
The Harvest
Good Neighbors
Under the Shadow
The Tunnel - I know somebody already mentioned, but I really want to include again
Hidden
Hell House LLC
Here Comes the Devil
The Invisible Guest - again, I know this is more well known but really a masterpiece ^^
The first half of Jeepers Creepers is honestly one of the best for me. Second half, not so much
Late Phases
The Perfect Host
Goodnight Mommy
Maybe some more will come to me, but these are a good start

I'm not big into horror genre, I much prefer the tension build-up and psychological aspect of Thrillers rather than cheap jump-scares (also thrillers have much less supernatural elements which I dislike unless it's done right, like "the Shinning") but I can give you a recommendation for a movie that is both and really took me by surprise called Orphan
Another great and unique movie that's a comedy and horror mixed in with documentary style is What We Do in The Shadows

Just saw The Thing last night and it is worth a watch. Crazy movie in my opinion. And I am sure you seen it but the Exorcist of course is a great one. It is disturbing to say the least. But like Alien, a lot of horror movies takes inspiration from it.

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds is a classic spooky movie, especially those who a fear of birds (which is everyone who watches this movie). It's a good example of humans vs animals and sent shivers down my spine!

Somo highly rated Indonesian horror movies like "Pengabdi Setan" (2017), "Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion" (2022), "Perempuan Tanah Jahanam" (2019), "Siksa Kubur" (2024), and "KKN di Desa Penari" (2022). Or South Korean like "The Priests" (2015), "Exhuma" (2024), or the more recent one like the "Dark Nuns" (2025).

The Thing, obviously.
Caveat and Oddity aren't perfect but they had me shitting my pants, they also had interesting ideas.
The Taking of Deborah Logan was very creepy and unnerving, too.
My favorite horror movie is Hereditary, I had my mouth open wide for one half the movie and my face buried behind my hands for the other.
Bone Tomahawk is creepy and very VERY graphic. It has one of the most horrifying kills in a movie, I still think about it sometimes until this day.
Cure (1997) is creepy yet thought provoking, if that's your jazz.
Heretic is also pretty good, which I was honestly surprised by. A bit preachy but good horror.

I can only recommend Last Shift. Low budget but very smart.

Idk why but I found "Smile" (2022) quite creepy.
Goodboy (2025) has a nice concept despite the low budget.

Transylvania 6-5000 (1985): A fun, campy movie about a pair of journalists who are tyring to find Frankenstein's monster in Transylvania.
Re-Animator (1985): Basically a horror movie for doctors.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988): A town is invaded by an alien race of monstrous clowns who want to eat people.

I'm shocked nobody has ever mentioned Rampo Noir (2005) since this thread was started seven years ago. 😲

Hellraiser (1987) is my all time favorite, part 2 is good too but then they became boring, with the demons becoming the villains of the movies and the great writing by Clive Barker, who wrote the original short story the movie was based on too, being swapped out for something more generic and easy to spin-off into many sequels.
The original Evil Dead is great, with part II and Army of Darkness becoming more comedic - the TV show Ash vs Evil dead is a great follow-up too. Speaking of horror movies that got a TV show sequel, The Exorcist got one as well. The first season was a bit pulpy, think early seasons of Supernatural kind of scares. The second season was phenomenal, though... unfortunately, that was the last one.
I'm also loving the new Welcome to Derry series. It has something in common with The Thing and Alien in that it has normal people dealing with an unknown, ravenous and beastly - yet very intelligent force that is much more powerful than them. It's what I love about H.P. Lovecraft's stories as well.

Hello everybody.
Halloween is coming.
So, in order to spend my evenings, i am searching for scary, spooky, bloody, horror movies or series.
And I mean good ones of course, because in the ocean of horror movies, sadly a few ones are really interesting.
I prefer horror with a fantastic side.
My favourite of all time is Alien. Because the creature is fascinating, the movie well directed, and it doesn’t age.
I can also recommend : The Descent, 28 Days Later, It Follows, The Conjuring series, AQuiet Place.
So, I’m waiting for your recommandations :)
