cant log in to steam

since the recent update i cant log into steam
every time that i try to update it says to my
"FATAL Error: steam must be online to update"
i tried to open the steamTMP folder but it says to me:
"Error: invaild data segment uncompressed file length"
its been 2 days that i cant log into Steam
can some1 help me?

Just re install it, backup the Steamapps folder beforehand though.

delete everything in your steam folder except the SteamApps folder, Steam.exe, and the userdata folder then launch steam and try to log in
