I kinda dislike puzzles that you can just use Google to solve it - although I enjoy it when I learn something new from those. I prefer evil puzzles that make you suffer and lose sleep for days - having nightmares about it when you do - until the brain inside the head you've been hitting against a wall finally cracks open and comes up with a brilliant idea to solve it. :)

I can certainly get frustrated by the, seemingly popular, ESP tests, or those based on "popular culture" or memes. A lot of the encryption-based puzzles can get to be tedious as well, and I've slowly lost interest in them. That being said, I think there are a good number of very well-made, very solvable puzzles on here that I have enjoyed quite a lot.

For myself, I try to make my puzzles approachable by anyone willing to give it a shot and maybe learn something, giving instructions and clear hints over time. My goal, unlike many puzzle-makers on here, is for my puzzles to be solvable by everyone, not just the psychics and uber-geniuses. I know I'm not alone in that sentiment.

All that being said, I'm glad there's a lot of variety on this site, and I've just come to accept that not every puzzle is for me. That wasn't an easy thing to accept for a long time. :)

It is quite annoying to get through a puzzle a good amount just to get stuck, but usually I don't mind it. I try to think of the giveaways as a bonus for solving the puzzle, rather than trying to solve the puzzle because of the giveaway.

I also understand that some puzzles are made in such a way that some people will find easier and others harder as it might require prior knowledge (Guess the... puzzles)

I'm hoping for more puzzles like this (probably my favourite puzzle so far). I love it when the puzzle creator is able to create their own type of puzzle that they try to lead you to figure out (which this puzzle does with its hard questions).

A lot of times, people also make puzzles that simply require some prior knowledge from Zelgh's puzzle guide to understand, especially when a puzzle seems to give no lead as to how you should start off. Sometimes those puzzles are the easiest, they just try to be more sneaky about it (like this dumb "puzzle" I made before).

Puzzle aren't for everyone, and not all puzzles are for people who like puzzles, but it's always fun to try your best and see how for you go. (at least for me)

The "puzzles" on itstoohard are basically just questions, not actual puzzles which is ridiculous, why call them puzzles at all I wonder.

I like puzzles, but I'm not good at them. If you can find the answers by google, to me it's not really a puzzle.
I won't get mad just beacause I can't solve the puzzle and enter the giveaway though, because there's no need to be upset.

I can identify with this. I spent more time on puzzles when I joined the site. But that began to fade when I'd get through the puzzle only to find it was leftovers from a bundle I already purchased or the game selection didn't have anything of interest to me.

I probably be more inclined to throw some time at puzzles when I knew if success meant I would be spending points.

I can understand getting mad at an extremely difficult puzzle with very poor rewards, or ones that are almost impossible to solve if you don't think exactly like the creator (I'm guilty of that kind myself), but mainly it seems to me like you hate feeling dumb with puzzles that you can't solve, not puzzles in general.

Also, I'm not entirely sure why being intelligent (something that you really shouldn't measure by taking online IQ tests) should relate to enjoying puzzles.

Some puzzles are too tough for me, which disappoints me, but doesn't make me hate them. And some are really satisfying to solve! This one, for example, was great fun for me.

I dislike them for all three reasons.

IQ tests are like puzzles too, so I don't know why you can't see why someone enjoying and doing well in them can't assume they should enjoy and do well in other puzzles.

Ok, when you put it like that, I see what you mean.
Well, like others have already said, if you don't like a puzzle, you'll have to ignore it and accept you won't be able to join some giveaways.

I will admit most of the games do suck.
A lot of them are too vague and require special knowledge or an inside scoop into the author's thinking
Or the puzzle's easy, but it's a pain in the ass anyway (see e.g. the 2k16 train, or the maze of a hundred question marks)

I enjoy puzzles, but I hate the "How well do you know me?" or general Steamgifts forum users related puzzles.
I don't come here to get to know people.

I wonder how many people hid giveaway links in their replies!

But yeah I just like some kind of puzzles, like "guess the screenshot" or "guess the music":) but as someone said before me I'd like if the creators would tell what games are they giving away!

I use to enjoy them because I had fun solving them and then there was the added benefit of having better odds of winning the game, but lately I haven't had the time to participate in the more time consuming puzzles. I do still enjoy the puzzles where the links are just hidden in the text or source code and logical puzzles that can be solved in around 20 minutes or less. I don't really enjoy the ones that send you on a hunt through old SG threads to find information, but I have no problem with other people creating and participating in them. It's their games to give away and they can do it any way they chose.

I love making puzzles... when I have ideas for them. And I prefer to have good hints... though sometimes I'm a bit obscure. And while puzzle makers often say their puzzles are easy, my latest one really is easy. The problem is it's so easy people can't see the forest for the trees. Typically though I like to give hints and push people in the right direction if they pm me. I prefer that people can solve the puzzles I make.

I do tend to do encryption puzzles, but I try to hint at what you're looking for usually or not make them too difficult to puzzle out.

That being said, I can't stand puzzles that are so obscure there's no way you'll solve them without magically guessing what the puzzle creator has done. Because of this, I've given up on most puzzles myself. I get where you are coming from, and that informs most of my puzzle making ideas.

I'm not a huge fan of saying what the GAs are, but I do tend to at least tell people how many points are required to enter everything at the very least, but I may change that in the future. I see the GAs as a bonus for solving the puzzles and I try to add a good variety of game types when I make one of my puzzle trains to at least appeal to the majority of people who may try to solve the puzzle.

anyways, rambled enough, time to sleep. :)

I would agree most puzzles here are not designed to be fun for the solver, rather to provide byzantine selection paths, so that the giveaway maker can feel a little more comforatble giving away their precious games to a select few (or get even more pissed when some piece of dick leaks their links)

Still I am grateful to everyone who gives away games, regardless of their puzzles being fun or not. Most likely I'm going to tell someone when I found their puzzles enjoyable.
