I am all for supporting excellent sites like this, which is why I just disabled adblock. Sadly I saw no ads. Sadness? Why Sadness Worbat no ads is a great thing!

Now while this is normally true, a small banner ad can do wonders for a site, here is why I think there should be some form of ads.

  • The money could be used to pay for web hosting meaning the site could become self sufficient and stays up longer.
  • Super special publisher pack gifts, we all know these are largely expensive and very few people will gift such huge packs but with ad revenue the site could do a special gift every now and then!

Discuss.

EDIT: I see there is a tiny text ad. Hmm this point could now be void.

I need to step out for a few minutes, but I'll expand on things in a bit.

Edit: Ok, more details. First off, there is one block of Google text ads on the homepage. They'll be removed shortly, as they're quite hidden, and don't work well in this situation. The plan at the moment is to redesign the header to include a search bar, dropdown menus (since we're working in some new pages), and one advertisement. It would be 468x60, paying per thousand impressions, and the only ad on the site. If you prefer to run Adblock, I'll make sure it properly disappears. In theory, that one ad should cover all the bills, and most importantly, help free up time to further develop the site. Instead of the ads paying for publisher packs, I'd use the revenue to build specific accounts for publishers, so they can run promotions through the site.

You get the money from the ads right? then if people have given a number of gifts then they could get 5 dollars every week or something like that.

I agree. I also use adblock plus and then I use that feature that allows you to disable blocking ads in the current site. I would do it for Steamgifts and for those special gifts occasionally :D

Think there was a thread on this before and the general consensus was that extra ads would wind up being annoying and probably not lead to very many giveaways from the site itself due to the minimal money that would be earned through it...

Edit: Guess I was wrong, Carry on.

I'm all for it, and I'd disable Adblock Plus for this site as long as the ads themselves aren't obnoxious.

Go on and disable it guys. We already have a small text ad below the giveaways which should be clicked every other Day ;)

It's generally a 'bad' idea to encourage people to (randomly) click ads on a website. Mostly because it causes false interest in advertisements and can endanger whichever site's advertisement deals. Really pay attention to the ads, but do not go out of your way to click on them for the sake of 'helping out the site'

if they were ad's related to the giveaways and sales on sgs or other gaming sites that would be great.
but if they were the standard spam ads that have to do with dating, viagra etc than I rather not see them.

Here, here. I wouldn't have any issue with ads on this site as long as they were tasteful.

I have absolutely no problem with ads on this site. I like this site a bunch, if ads make it even slightly easier/better to keep the site up, I say go for it! It would be nice for the ads to be relevant though.
