It probably has the best processor of all the budget phones. Battery life is always good with Moto phones. The phone is really cheap and I prefer stock Android. I've bought the G4 for myself and multiple family members, and we're all satisfied. Moto G5 is a little slower, but can be bought for 133 euros @ Amazon.de. That's probably a great deal as well, depending on the price of the Moto G4 in your country.

As a brand name, yes. The current manufacturer Lenovo bought Motorola Mobility from Google a few years ago.

You know, there has to be one that actually works. There are things like drivers. Not to mention warranty.

I say yes. If you like stock Android + long term using, a durable phone, also don't care much about the look, I would say that is one of some best choice you can make.
I don't have G4, but one of my phone is Moto G 1st gen, and I'm using it for 2 years already, so far I never run into any single problem, yes, for the whole 2 years, no matter software or hardware.

Motorola has never made a good phone. The only people who ever thought otherwise, were ones who've never had a good phone

Not even the Nexus 6? Define "good phone" ;)

I have a G4 Play for some weeks now, can´t complain (screen size could be a bit smaller for me...). But I´m coming from an old Android 2.3 phone (Samsung), so I´m not the typical smartphone power user here ;)

Yeah, that's just wrong. Which phones are you thinking of as being "good"?

I upgraded from 1st gen Moto G to Moto G4 earlier this year, I've really liked it so far and I'm planning to keep it at least the next 2 or 3 years. It took a bit of time to get used to the 5.5" size, the width of the phone is on the limit for me. I'm optimistic about getting further updates, at least security updates if Lenovo decides not to push next Android versions in it.

There's one 'problem' that might be an issue for some, the touchscreen sometimes goes crazy if you try to use the phone while charging. Most likely not an issue with all Moto G4s, but I've seen mentions of this elsewhere. I've also read reports from users that the phone gets quite hot with intensive use, but I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary with my phone.

If you can find a good deal (<150€) and the specs are enough for what you want from a phone, it's a great choice. Moto G5 looks good too since it offers 3GB or RAM instead of 2. From what I've understood the performance of G4 and G5 is pretty even.

edit: I wasn't aware there are 2GB/3GB variants of Moto G5, I mostly see only 3GB version offered in my country.

I have a G4 Plus and have had it since November. There are 2 big issues affecting these phones. One is "ghost touch" where the touchscreen goes nuts when your phone is charging. I don't have this issue so I don't know much about it other than it's fairly widespread.

The second is bad batteries. This affects users in different ways. For me, the phone will get to around 30-40% remaining and then shut itself off. It doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it's in the middle of the phone ringing or when playing a game, sometimes I haven't touched it in hours and I'll pick it up to see that it's off. The problem for me started about a month ago and I'm slowly working through the troubleshooting before I give up and ask for a replacement phone. I would just replace it myself but it's a "non-replaceable" although you could probably do it yourself but doing it yourself would result in voiding the warranty.

Would I buy another Motorola phone? I'm honestly not sure. My answer will probably depend on how their customer service is when I ask for a replacement.

It's actually the phone I have. It's my first smartphone, so I can't really compare it to anything else, but so far I've been pretty happy with it-- do get a turbo charger, though, cause otherwise the battery takes quite a bit to get to 100%.

Yes, its an awesome phone, I've had one since February, it's easy to navigate and all apps run smooth. I'd suggest only the moto G4, because In my opinion the G4 Play and the G4 Plus are not that good. And yes, get the turbo charger too.

Seriously? I have Nexus 4 for 5 years now, fast-charged all that time and battery runs dry quick only when I'm using 3G... And playing of course... But I was playing why charging many times, so my battery can be fckd up... And "now I lose 30% in an hour"... Ok, but whith what use?

The phone rarely heats up when watching videos or using the internet. My biggest problem is using the fullscreen mode on videos conflicts with the virtual macro buttons on the bottom of the phone(triangle, circle, and square symbols) sometimes. What I have to do is exit fullscreen then re-enter fullscreen. YouTube videos from the YouTube app are not affected; only videos from a mobile internet browser. Also, turn off and never use the phone's automatic brightness setting because the screen will be too bright or too dark even in the slighest change of outside brightness. To end on a positive note, the phone has a cool ability for turning on the camera without typing in your on-screen password: twist your wrist two times or you can customize your phone so that doing a karate chop will activate the camera instead.

Try sliding your finger upwards just a bit from the bottom up if you have it horizontally, or from right to left just a bit too if you have it sideways to bring the navigation menu (I had a Lumia 640 before which had this option to show or hide the navigation panel by just sliding upwards your finger, and it seems Google took this little feature to their Android OS)

Why don't you check G5 with 3 GB RAM instead? It's pretty good.

That doesn't mean G4 is bad though. It was the best budget phone around before they released G5 :D

IMHO the 1GB extra is not worth the price, because 2GB can run all apps without a problem, but if they don't run well is because is because they're not that well optimize. I think of apps for phones as if they were games for PC to some extent, you most likely have the recommended specs to run them, but if the devs don't optimize them properly they just won't run all that well.
