Dear SteamGifts,

I trust you when buying equipment and I know I can get more for my money but I am more looking for light + gaming + speed + portability... + size.. and cost really isn't "much" of a issue.. I just don't want to carry a laptop over 6.0lbs and both of these are realtivly under that.

So, which should I choose.

Here is the game debate which would better at games/performance between the two?

Razer Edge Pro or VAIO Fit 15A

Both run a I7 Processor

However, both have different GPU's

The Razer has a 640M LE Pipeline and the VAIO Fit 15A is running a 735M

The Razer is running at 1358 x 768 Res and the VAIO Fit 15A is running at 1980 x 1020 res

You can find the comparison between the two graphics drivers here
http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1713&gid2=830&compare=geforce-gt-735m-vs-geforce-gt-640m-le-384-pipelines

Price is pretty much the same..probably a $50 difference

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

No conclusions, but some things to think about:

  • Just being i7 means nothing. Some i5s perform better than some i7s for games. For example, the VAIO is running 1.8 GHz, and the Razer is running 1.9 GHz, both of which are slower than some phones.
  • 1358 x 768 is tiny if you aren't going to be using an external monitor. Seriously, if you're doing anything other than browsing the internet, you will want something bigger.
  • The recommended Screen Size of the GeForce GT 735M is 1280x720, much smaller than it's native resolution. I don't know what "recommended Screen Size" means, but it doesn't look good.
  • For games, don't expect either of these to perform very well. For this price, you should be getting much better gaming performance.

It would make sense to have a small laptop to carry around, and a desktop to game on. You could save money and still get better performance. http://www.logicalincrements.com/

Razer... Computer... And you're contemplating actually paying money for it? Real money, not, like, monopoly money? ISHYGDDT.

No, really. A fun bit of trolling aside... Razer has a reasonably bad rap for build quality of their peripheral devices. Which are overpriced as hell, and underdeveloped, lack sturdiness and ruggedness expected, and thus have low life spans. There is absolutely no way in all the hells I'd even contemplate running a laptop made by them, as their brand name inspires NO trust.

Sony is decent, but their laptops are hugely overpriced and really not that great compared to much cheaper brands.

Eagleclaw6 here already touched on some technical points as well, but I'd like to be repetitive anyway... i7 doesn't mean anything. It's a series line. It doesn't mean it is inherently somehow the best thing. They also have model numbers for a reason. There are i7 CPUs from 3 generations ago that would now probably barely beat out the bottom tiers of i3's or i5's in overall performance. And those operating frequencies are very low. As Eagle said, there are phones that have faster quad core CPUs in them.

The GPUs in both of those are honestly not much of an improvement over Intel onboard graphics, so, as Eagle also already said, don't expect those to let you game well at all.

Now, the Razer is being marketed as a tablet, and that also brings up further issues. The design of it makes me think that thermals are going to be abysmal, and thus I see a lot of overheating issues with that idea in the future, so that's an extra reason I wouldn't touch one until I knew for certain how it lasts over time. I wouldn't even think about that for at least a year.

So in the end, really, I'd say both are absolutely terrible purchases in all honesty. But if you're dead set on something you pretend you can actually possibly game on, and need the touch screen, I guess I'd go with the Viao.

Really though, if it was me, I'd be looking at something with better overall specs, worrying way less about a touchscreen, and probably be looking at something either ASUS or ACER brand, as both are generally very good, while being much more reasonably priced. I'm partial to ASUS, because not only have I worked with their parts for about 20 years now, but I've had fantastic experiences with their customer support. ASUS and MSI are effectively my two favorite brands for PC components simply because the products are not only great quality, but the companies have been trustworthy and I've had such great experiences with customer support through them both. I've also had great luck with ACER products, largely peripherals like Monitors, but their stuff is generally fairly inexpensive, but damn durable.
Thus why I think either ASUS or ACER laptop/ultrabook/tablet whatever you want would likely be a better option.

Hope my wall-o-text is somewhat helpful to you.

Please link to a specific model; I couldn't find a particular matching model and therefore it makes it hard to find specific weight/dimensions in order to offer advice. Neither of the options is particularly compelling and I'm tempted to say you could get better performance and form factor with a different brand for much less.
