That's assuming that they have a large event like last year for badges. I don't think that will be the case this year because of the Steam Auction which gives more incentives than ever to craft badges. My point is, they wouldn't give this many incentives to craft badges and then immediately screw everyone over and provide even better incentives following the auction. Valve would get too much flak for that.

Ive actually made quite a profit this sale crafting low price badges, then taking the holiday card you get for crafting and then sell it for more cards to craft more badges. the vicious cycle. i was a level 10 today and im up to 22. not only that i have a inventory full of cards and also made some decent cash to craft more badges. i started with only 39 cents and some humble game trades for cards and now im flyin through badges :)

Holiday card is only selling for ~20. How do you make enough back to buy a booster pack or 5-10 cards?

idk man. its working for me very well. i have almost a tf2 key in holiday cards if i were to sell those and then i have 57 cents in my wallet from extra spending. when i only started out i had maybe 20 cards in my inventory, i finished those first for the badges, then sold the holiday card, scrapped the emoticons and back ground, then repeated, every so often you get a booster pack that (with lots of luck) has a great foil. that helped me speed things up a bit more as well. idk how it may not work for others but its surly done good for me.

I'm wondering about hoarding Christmas card, will price rise when sale come like earlier event cards?

Event cards usually drop when craft before sales start, and average price are 0.2$. When sales start, card will rise to about 0.6$ or more for couple of days.

Depends on if there is another event. There's a lot of people with early cards this year, so if there is no event, don't expect much of a rise. If there is a card event, though, it will very likely follow the usual pattern of .60 on the first day and drifting down after.
So, gambling on whether this gem thing is the only Christmas event. I say, no, this is a feeder event for the main event, to free up even more loot for GabeN. But, it is a gamble.

Another idea:
As of last summer sale there were teams competing for top crafter free games. If this repeats in this winter sale, you would be wasting craft points for your team if you have crafted your badges already. But this is Steam where one can not be sure of anything. Look at the Gem Mess :)

Yes, I was thinking about this. But good thing last Summer, craft atleast one badge or contribute any amount and you're already entered in the sweepstakes. Also a friend told me that there could be a 2x exp during the Holiday Sale. But either way, I just loaded my wallet and I'm so ready. XD
