It's not a realistic game, it's a videogame with realistic tone and weapon handling, that doesn't change the fact that many people like to unlock things in games. And why do you think the level system is "full of crap"? You get pretty easy through it, especially when you grind your levels on Bot servers.

You die in 1 bullet anyway. So what? I did pretty good with the standard weapons before I even got the other ones, btw. (And I'm still using most of them because the other ones are situational)
