Is steam gift still region restricted or is it now price restricted? I just noticed on the steam store that they removed the "Notice: {country restrictions}" in the store page. Is region restricted still applicable or do I have to look-up for the pricing difference when making giveaways directly from store? If so how much price difference is allowed to be gifted? Sorry I'm not up-to-date with the steam gifts changes.

Picked a game, buy as a gift, "Due to regional price differences" blabla
Choosing another friend from the list, I can gift the game.
It seems country/region locks are gone, price difference lock is still there.
It was under %10-15? Not sure about that.

It's around 10-15% :) Confirmed this a while back using Steamdb and another friend. As for the region lock, I know it still applies to gifts before the policy was implemented but I'm not sure whether it applies to new ones.

Afaik if it's 10 % cheaper in the origin region, it can't be gifted.

Both, actually. You cannot gift to someone who would normally need to pay 10%+ more for the same game. But the old regional separations are also in effect, so you cannot gift many games, for example from Japan to Russia as they are region-locked.

So if people are paying less for games than I am, I can still gift them? I was under the impression that it was +/-10%.

Only +10%. You can gift to any cheaper region. This is why it is a bit funny to be Western/Central European on Steam, because apart from a very handful of exceptions, we can gift anything to anyone (as long as it does not carry a regional lock), but cannot receive almost any game from any other region.

Hmm, that's good to know with the holidays coming up.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah, common misconception. But I just confirmed it by sending a game to a region where it is 41% cheaper than in mine. Steam processed it.

I am in a locked region, every single game was locked until recently but now I can gift the more expensive games out of my region; at least I don't get a warning when I try to checkout.

The game needs to have an actual region-specific repo. Previously, entire Steam was region-separated; this is what they removd with the new system. but region-specific repositories are still in effect, so for example, you still cannot gift Metro 2033 Redux to Russia, because it has a CIS-only repo. But you can gift it now from US or EU to South America, which was not possible in the old system.

In my experience, you can gift it and won't get any warning at the checkout. The receiver will still receive it, but the warning will be displayed on his side, and when he tries to add it to his library he won't be able (if he is outside your region), his only option is to refuse it.

I'm from Argentina and here we still have the US store prices. In the past we had the region restriction that our gifts can be only activated on Latin America. Now if I gift a game to someone living in the US (the prices are the same) I can gift it, but it happens what I've described above. Now we are fucked up, cause most Latin America countries have their own currencies with better prices than we, so you can only gift to Latin America due to region lock, but you can't gift to most countries in latam cause price difference....

So does that mean I can't gift to Singapore? Cause I created a giveaway for this game https://steamdb.info/app/288160/ with SEA region restriction. My country's price is $0.35 while in Singapore it's $0.40. The price difference is more than 10%.
SEA region includes: Indonesia (ID), Malaysia (MY), Philippines (PH), Singapore (SG), Thailand (TH), Vietnam (VN). Should I delete my giveaway?

Correct. For example, Indonesians cannot gift almost anything to any country, even in SEA. Similarly, Russians cannot gift anything to any other CIS country, or Mexicans and Brazilians often cannot give games to other South American countries.

This is why SteamGifts has a country-based region system now, you need to be aware of which countries have their own currencies and lock Steam gift gifting based on that. In most cases, it means you pretty much need to gift to the same currency region, in your case the country you live in.

The one you linked can be gifted from the Philippines to anyone in Philippines, Russia/CIS, Turkey, Indonesia, ?alaysia, Mexico, and Brazil, and maybe to India and Thailand; but no other countries.
Nice game pick, by the way.

I would say you can. The difference isn't exactly a 10% always, and not sure how they calculate it. It's always some number between 10%-15% difference. Imo, you will be able to gift it to Singapore. But I can't guarantee that. Some times a price difference of 14% was gifted without problems, but another with 13% difference wasn't. So it's really strange how they choose this...

Now I don't know if I should delete my giveaway or not. Hopefully the winner can receive it.

Hahaha, not sure if the best advice, but if I were you I would just let it open. If by any reason you can't gift it, you can try to send money to the winner trough the steam market so he can buy it. Maybe not the best option tho... Or you can always contact someone from Singapore to buy the game for him. But this can always be risky and more expensive than what you would pay for the game if there wasn't any restriction. Is up to you to evaluate the pros and cons..

EDIT: If you know someone from Singapore, just try to gift the same game to him. The price difference warning is shown when you checkout, so you will know if there's a problem even before gifting it. That way you can try if you are able or not and then decide if you should delete or not the GA.

Nice idea, I added some of the people who entered my giveaway to see if they can receive it. Hopefully they will accept my invite before the giveaway ended.

Your idea somewhat worked. This message is listed on the store before purchase:
Notice: Purchases made in Philippines can only be added to your library if you are in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Viet Nam.

That doesn't mean the price difference thing isn't there. That is only for the region locks. For the price difference a warning is displayed when you pick up the payment method. If you don't have a warning like this one (yellow text in the attached picture), then you will be able to gift it to Singapore.

Hi do you know how long before I can make a giveaway again. I can't seem to create a new one. I'm receiving this message:
"You've reached the giveaway limit based on your feedback, or you have too many deleted giveaways. To increase this limit, click here to create a support ticket."
I already filed a ticket and it's still pending.

Hi! Sorry, never had that issue myself. I don't know how it exactly works, but I suppose support can reserve the right to not give you any slot. My advice would be to link this thread so they can know why you have deleted the GAs.

I am from Europe, both Usa and Australia tried to send me different stuff, couldn't do, because of the price stuff.
The one in USA just ended up buying stuff from Amazon if he wants to gift something.
