Should the Fourth Drawing Contest stick to the "characters" theme?

EDIT: Maybe , according to the moment when the contest was post, adding a theme like, draw character with christmas theme or halloween theme or mother day theme etc etc?

If you want to keep it vidya related, you could always let us draw landscapes or our favorite items/artifacts from various games.
Or just an "anything goes do whatever you want" free-for-all would be interesting, although difficult to judge.

My personal opinion about themes: characters are good, because people generally enjoy drawing characters but hate drawing backgrounds or props. I considered adding a theme this time, but I was afraid it'd be too limiting. Now I know I don't have to worry about participation. :)
Having no theme at all would make judging really difficult. Imagine having to compare a realistic portrait, a landscape and a comic strip.
So for the next contest I'd still pick characters and add a nice, not too limiting theme like, I don't know, summer vacation. Or SteamGifts. Or potatoes.

Not sure about the topic, but maybe it should be traditional art/digital art only next time? It's usually not easy to judge them the same way.
Also, a bit off-topic, but do you plan or maybe I missed it and it already happened before thematic photography contest? Can be interesting as well :)

The first edition was traditional only, I liked it but many people wanted to include digital too. I don't want to limit the participation too much...
And photography? Hmmm... I'm not sure if I'm the right person to organise something like that, but it could be interesting. :D

Photo contest, origami contest, pixel art contest, music (other than singing) contest, floral composition contest, potato carving contest, extreme ironing contest... the possibilities are endless!

I've also taken part of video contest and crafting contest on other sites, so yeah those are also options. Mostly would like to see photography contest though, I've neglected the hobby because no motivation, but contests always motivate me. Music (composing) contest is also one I'd really like, it's been literally 10 years since I touched Reason, not sure if it's even a thing anymore.

At some point I did think about organising a musical production contest, with themed giveaways for all participants (plenty of very good games on Steam with the "Music" tag)... but I am afraid there would be very few entrants :(

Congrats to all participants! It was the strongest contest among all 3 of them, imho. Happy about Darkest Dungeon getting frist place - it was my favorite from the event and I didn't expect it to win because of unusual art style. Looking froward for the next contest, maybe I'll participate then to fill last positions ^_^

I would like to see a different theme next time. I would suggest imaginary cityscapes from games. Oh, that really would be great! Imagine all those awesome, fantastic backgrounds for your desktop.
But artists should make this decision, since they will draw and they will know better which one is better for them, easier or harder for them.
They were such amazing drawings really. Can't wait to see the next contest. o.O.
