Hi to everybody!
I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but Steamtrades does not seem to have any place to ask/any moderators, nothing. I'm sorry in advance if this is not the correct place to ask this.

So the question: I wanted to trade with somebody, so I looked up their reputation on Steamtrades.com but it told me "this account has been permanently removed". What can cause this? Did the person do something or did they ask for their account to be removed (is that even possible to request that?)? Is it a red flag, should I avoid this person?

Thanks in advance to anybody who can help out a (sorta) newbie

As Maya said above, everyone can remove it anytime they wish but there are 2 reasons a person will usually want to do so: they have no intentions of trading ever again or they are scammers that want to mask their bad rep. A slight chance it is the former that changed their mind and in this case ask them for rep anywhere else like barter.vg or official trading subreddits on reddit (but never steam profile rep as those are easily forged, they can delete any bad rep there)

Alternatively you can always see if they are willing to go first to minimize risk of scams (just minimize as they can still scam you by credit card chargebacks)

I will add to this that some of these removals predate the current voting system that can remove bad rep. For example, maybe they were impersonated and victims started hitting their profile with negative reps, in mistake. Or they were targeted by scammers and the scammers used alt accounts to hit them with multiple bad reps. Whatever the case may be, anyone who's removed it has something to hide, so you take a risk dealing with them.

I recognize your (OP's) name from indiegala forums, so you're in an incredibly dangerous position with those GG keys. Very risky trading, since you need a high amount of trust to attempt those... and you can't report them with a negative rep if you get cheated. Which is a big reason why someone might remove the profile...

thanks for replying, I'm attempting to trade for a game I purchased in a recent bundle (so not GG keys) for a game from an older bundle

thanks for replying, I checked barter.vg and this person has plenty rep there and no disputes, so it seems safe, it never occured to me that this person might have been impersonated or hit by neg reviews by scammers. Seems reasonable to remove an account in that case, thanks for your help

They also could have just removed it on principle to protest the unmanning of SteamTrades so it was left for bots to rule. That's how the voting on feedback system works, whoever has the biggest botnet decides which feedback stays.

That's still not a reason to give up the page. ST requiring authentication is one of the best ways to prevent impersonation, providing a link to it as an extra check. Unlike steam profiles with who knows how many alt-made rep comments, you can get a real measure of trust from other verified, high rep users they've dealt with.

I know what you mean about removing neg reps, but there are usually ways to dig up enough warning from other sources.

Even a fake bot feedback on ST is worth more than a fake bot feedback on Steam, that's true. But people moved on to better trading sites like Barter or Lestrades where they have all that and a better working feedback system and actual support staff.

oh, I did not know that :( I mean the voting system is a nice idea when unfair feedback is left, but when you put it like that..... I have also seen a person go from 0 negative rep to 5 negative rep overnight, just because somebody with 5 alternate accounts wanted to hurt their reputation.

So i guess the conclusion here is: a removed account on steamtrades means nothing bad very often, so I won't take it as a red flag since the person has plenty good rep elsewhere
