I don't really consider visual novel as games but I am with you on RPG maker and tower defense games.
I suck at grand strategy games but I don't hate them. More like they hate me.
I'm always willing to give new games a go though. I'm really growing tired of the first person horror genre. It feels like they're getting less imaginative as time goes. It's the thing you do when you don't know what to do now. Stories are non existent, it's all about gore and predictable "jump scare" shticks. But hey, it takes all and people seem to enjoy them so I'm cool with leaving them to others and sticking to the remaining 90% of the games out there.

mindless/repetative hack and slash/shooter games... i liked them when i was a kid, but now they just bore me... i need some kind of narrative substance behind them to keep me interested.
mmo's and anything that plays like an mmo (borderlands, etc)

What do you get out of these threads?
Is it the sense of community? Are you naturally curious? Lots of free time? Simply enjoy seeing the red numbers on your navigation bar increase?
Honest question, no shade. You're certainly one of the most frequent thread starters here (possibly #1).
What gets you out of bed each morning to create these inquisitive threads?
To answer your own query, I'd have to say anything I've posted here: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/ek06A/key-words-or-phrases-that-make-you-instantly-click-hide-giveaway

Most-most?
Racing ( I loved Lego Racers or revolt, with bonuses, standard racing feels like a waste of time compared to other genres) and sports ( played fifa 1998 and loved, lego football or something akin and loved, but I do remember fifa 2005? bore me.Not my stuff)
Though knowing that I love good mechanics, story, narrative and ways of storytelling, not liking racing and sports is not so surprising :)

I dislike:
I try to keep an open-mind to most other genres 😅
I only started on Steamgifts 3 months ago. I only had 50 games in my library. I have a pretty tight budget when it comes to games, so I never really ventured outside my usual genres:
But now I've had my mind opened to new genres thanks to the games I've won here.
I'm super grateful to be part of the group Playing Appreciated whom I've won most of my giveaways from 😁

Anything that requires patience. RTS, Tower Defense, regular Strategy and all the strategic sub-branches, TCGs, some puzzle games... I'll make exceptions, of course, but not all that often.
Anything that gives you too much freedom. Sandbox, building-type things, lotta simulators and all o' that...
Unrelated: I also really dislike match-3 games. wHy ArE tHeRe So MaNy?!

I hate any game that contains persuasive technology or that connects to Internet without a good reason to. The main problem with that is that they're hard to spot before you actually buy them... 👀
From a purely gameplay style, I really don't like sandbox games like Minecraft (particularly when they're ugly like Minecraft) or "life simulator" games where fulfilling your basic physiological needs (eating, drinking, gathering stuff) is pretty much the core of the gameplay (Rust, The Forest...).

MMORPGs, at least all the ones I tried and that were quite a few....and it makes me mad because they would have so much potential if they were actually good RPGs.

FPS games were never my thing. (First-person anything makes me motion sick.) Or just about anything that involved killing people without thinking too much about it.

Games with tons of achievements for doing absolutely nothing, asset flips, and shady games in general. In terms of genres I don't much care for, I'm not a fan of most sports games, MOBAs, MMORPGs, and war games. I have difficulty with horror games since I scare easily, but I make exceptions for ones with really good story elements.

nowadays, mmorpgs.. I had way more time back in '99-'00 with Ultima Online and later with WOW =P but I like almost any genre as long as the game's good!

Anything multiplayer-only... and strategy games in general are not my cup of coffee. I usually suck at those. Although I will sometimes get obsessed with a game that I would not have gone for in the first place. That recently happened with Plague Inc. Our very own JimsNotDrunk told me about just how much fun it was to eradicate humanity and I got intrigued. Got the game from a [redacted noun] and... damnit, it's really addictive. O_o
There are certainly other genres I dislike but my brain got a lazy and can't be bothered to remind me of them.

Now in the past I, along with others, have made topics about you favorite games. The types you like and love.
But lets go in a different direction now, and you will also see just how half awake I am while posting this. >_<
What kinds of games so you like the least? The kinds you don't want to buy. Hell, the kinds you never even want to see on your steam or SG giveaways.
I, myself, have no interest in visual novels after trying a few. They are just boring to me. I'd rather sit with a physical book in my hands (which I LOVE to do over readers), RTS games are also not my cup of tea. And as much as I love rpg's, even the old SNES days style ones, I am sick and tired of seeing those RPG maker games.
Edit- I forgot to mention that I HATE tower defense games also.
