So What you think?

I'll have to see first but seems bad

Too bad the discussion is only about female/male. The gender should have nothing to do with it I think. I prefer someone who can play the role right. Who can get me excited again, and pull me in the story. I hope she can pull it off. Not like her predecessor.

tbh, sometimes I like the companions better.

Who?

As long as the writers don't use the gender change as a constant crutch for lack of ideas, it should be fine.

Wasn't the doctor supposed to be out of regenerations by now? I haven't watched anything since the original series' so meh.

I think they ret-conned that out or something. I can't remember which episode, but I believe it was mentioned during the new series.

Maybe the Doctor changes gender after being out of regens :).

Male Doctor: remaining regens: 0.
Female Doctor: remaining regens: all.

The last episode with Matt Smith, the Christmas special "The Time of the Doctor".
He did run out his regenerations and was about to die of old age, during a siege on Trenzalore, surrounded by Daleks, Weeping Angels, Cybermen, etc.
But he got some help : the Time Lords sent him enough energy to start a new cycle of regenerations. How many ? No one knows. Here is a video if you want.

A little bit indeed :p
But it doesn't come from nowhere. It's canon that bonus lives can be allowed. In the old episodes, Rassilon seems to have unlimited regenerations, and the Master gets a new cycle from the High Council.
Plus, the Time Lords owe the Doctor everything, he saved them from a certain death, and it's also in their own interest to save him, so he can help them afterwards. The reason of the "You helped us, now we help you to allow you to help us again in the future" is in the episode of the 50th anniversary.

One day I'll catch up to the Doctor. I liked the series, but kind of stopped in Series 7, after Amy and Rory were gone. That part about the Weeping Angels being revealed as some time eating creatures really killed them as a frightening enemy. I'm not sure that was what killed the series for me, but these things helped, and felt like a good departure point, especially after I heard bad things about Peter Capaldi's series.

Anyway, the new change raises some interest, but I'll wait and see how it turns out.

I'm a little behind in the show. I last watched Season 4 (the last Tennant Season), but I have Season 5 and Season 6 on DVD. I still need to get the Specials that bridge David Tennant and Matt Smith before I watch it.

Was the 12th Doctor really that bad?!? O.O

The first season featuring him was quite good, the last one, not so much (at least the first 8 episodes, I haven't watched the last 4 yet).

Alot of people say the opposite. I didn't really like him myself but it also was about the episodes stories themselves.

I had low expectations from the start and it proved to be quite enjoyable. However the last season's acting was pretty bad.

fine then he is a man again- pandering to the 'Alt-right i see'
FINE We'll make the doctor into a donkey! - oh pandering to PETA now? >=(

I didn't know her, so I tried to check imdb and she is just a side character in all the movies that showed.
but frankly, As long as she can perform and act like The Doctor, then it's all good for me.

Check out the show Broadchurch. I think that's where she has the most screentime

I was so happy with the news, loved her (and her beautiful face) since I saw her in Attack the Block. Haven't seen Broadchurch tho, chirp chirp, even tho it starts 10, which is probably why I haven't seen it since he's so much 10 for me it's hard to see him as anything else.
Edit: I'll miss Missy though, she's so hot. (Haven't seen last 12 season, but assuming Missy will leave with 12.)

People who wanted to ship Dr. Who with himself, finally had their prayers answered.

I am not even a DoctorWho Fan but it always annoys me when established male characters get genderswitched so producers can call themself progressiv. Marvel comics is doing the exact same and they are failing hard.

But if you think about it is actually sexist as hell because they dont belive that a new female lead could be succesfull on her own. A spinnoff with another timelord who happend to be female would surely have gotten a chance. But this way they only immediatly alienated a big part of their core audience.

It depends entirely on writing. If it doesn't devolve to constant misandry it could work. But I don't have high hopes in general anymore...

Experience says no hope.
Are there ANY successfull genderswitched characters anywhere? I mean there have to be at least a few but i cant think of one.

To be fair , i stopped watching doctor who ages ago but even the stuff that i saw i would consider already 'progressive'

it's most likely that they saw their rating dropping over time and are trying to shake things up to see if they can get some more views
