It can be in "My Documents" if you use windows.

Just checked, there is a folder for Outlast but the save files don't seem to be there.

I tried but I didn't manage to find it. I'm off to bed now so you might have to ask someone else, someone who has it on Steam should be able to find the save files pretty easily. Sorry I wasn't able to help.

Not anymore, but you might go and check this two sites (google/bing them, I won't put direct links to avoid braking rules, just in case)
cs rin ru (it's a russian forum, it's in english too, go there and see if anyone posted his/her saves, or just ask nicely!
gamecopyworld - it might have savegames, I didn't checked myself.

I had the same problem as you when i lost my saves. Archive contains of 3 folders 1 an 2 is saves that i downloaded somewhere (dont remember which one is worked for me). And the saves in folder 3 is my saves, but i`m not sure about time and place in game in my save games.

That`s because i played it on russian xD. Maybe your game does not recognize save because of language. I think you should not copy profile.bin
