I don't get why I can't download two games at the same time, can someone explain?

+1 Probably need more Mafia II and Civ V giveaways. That might solve the issue.

You can, just bug it. Keep clicking on the download buttons. I do always when Im downloading something and then Im going to play something, then I bug it always. Just try. Worth a try.

He is right, you can queue them up, and the next will start immediately after one ended. Absolutely no need for this topic :(

Download one game through the night. When you'll wake up next morning, the download will be done (unless your bandwidth is terribly awful). Then you can download the other game at daytime! ^_^

No one mocked your contributor value, you just seem to be a bit dense and/or lacking a sense of humour.

Zing!

because if such practice became common, it would lead to the overload of Steam servers, in turn leading to a huge explosion, which would wipe Valve's toolshed off the face of the Earth

Will you play both at the same time? No, right?

+1, you make good sense in there.

By the way, you can download one first and then when you start the first game you downloaded you can always alt+tab to the desktop and resume downloading the other game and return to play, or enter your profile via steam overlay browser and resume downloading from "Your games", I do that whenever I want to download several games.

You know second download of the game is only suspended and will resume downloading when the first game is downloaded.

He's referring to a workaround for how Steam pauses downloads when you start a game, even if it's entirely singleplayer. :)

Yeah, didnt catch that on the first reading :D I am used to this workaround so much i dont event think about it.

Probably just a skin.

I think the skin is called "Metro", should be able to find it somewhere on the steam forums. I seen it before on there.

Edit: Yup it is called Metro. Here is a link to a thread with a bunch of skins linked in it. Skins Thread

Just press "Pause" on the one that shows up as "Suspended" and then press play on it. It will start downloading and you will be able to download both at the same time.

If you're going away for a while and want both to be downloaded by the time you get back:

  • Start downloading the one that you DON'T want downloaded first.
  • Without clicking 'pause', start downloading the one you want FIRST.
  • The one you started first will be suspended.
  • When the first one finishes, it'll automatically do the second one.

If you think about it: you're downloading the same amount of data at the same rate, just not at the same time.

Sometimes that works. Sometimes Steam decides, in the middle of downloading one game, that it would prefer to be downloading the other game instead.

Overhead.

When you are downloading one thing most of your bandwidth is downloading that. But some of your bandwidth is used for various things needed to maintain the download. Download a second thing at the same time and you have twice the overhead. So if one download is enough to max out your transfer speed, two simultaneous downloads will get you it all slower than if you downloaded one, then the other.
