Do you tend to save some games for certain occasions?
Costume Quest. One of my favourite games. :)
I'm kind of like that with a certain movie at Christmas. I watch A Christmas Story every year. It is my favourite Christmas movie. :)

I try to play holiday or seasonal games around their respective times if I'm going to play them. Everything else I try to time out how long games will take to beat and plan that around generally how much time I have for that day/week/month depending on how long the game is. Some games I also specifically save to play with others because they aren't fun for me to play alone.

I guess holidays are a good excuse. I wonder if holiday themed games considerably spike up at holiday seasons.
I usually don't care about optional co-op games but I can say the very same thing happened to me with Magicka and Castle Crashers.

I didn't do this on purpose - not really knowing anything about The Division (Tom Clancy game) besides it being a 3rd person shooter ... and a Tom Clancy game ... I started playing it on Black Friday of 2020 (during COVID) ... well wasn't I surprised when the cinematic beginning told me that the game was about a virus that was spread on Black Friday!

Not really, i just tend to play whatever fits my mood at that moment. If iâm tired iâll just pop on an arcadey racing game. If i want something that will make me focus and think, iâll pop on a stealth game etc. :)

I do it with Syberia games. I played the first one on 2020 Christmas, and the 2nd one last Christmas. I think its just because it's an adventure in a place with a lot of snow lol

I guess you can say this for Dreamfall Chapters, which you should play The Longest Journey first and it's a 21 years old game. A remastered version would be welcomed since it's a must play if someone wants to play other two games on the series.

I actually am following up with my "do not buy unless I will play right away" principle.
2021 I bought only 6 games (and then my PC died and I couldn't play 3 of them. . . . :csdmeh:)
Seems this year will also be a quiet year for my wallet haha
(extra bump)

I'm generally doing the same thing since mid 2018 but I bought 3 years worthy of games in winter sale. My reason is different this time, mostly because of the exchange rates gone very bad and I was afraid of the prices could change soon. Probably I won't buy new games for a long time.
Well, life won't go as planned, like never. :)

i do. i usually save long games that interest me and can be finished in 1-2 weeks to play it without stopping whenever i'm on a holiday or something.

I was doing the same at first (for PAGYWOSG), though I still keep a couple of games around for the same reason, then I started to play the games that not even in my playlist if they fit the month's theme. That's surely helping with the backlog.

Tbh I just thought it was a neat tidbit. Year Walking is based off an actual tradition in some countries, where you go out into the woods and walk from one year to the next (on new years) and you were believed to meet supernatural creatures and get knowledge of some future events.
Having an achievement for playing on new years just made the game more fun to me.

I assume Northern countries but I could be wrong. I really appreciate when I see a cultural game on Steam, playing a game is a nice way to learn about some culture. Recently played Kisima Ingitchuna and it was super cool.
Yeah, well-timed achievements really improve the experience.

Yes, I still have lot of unredeemed keys, just save them and after some time, sometimes years, I decide to play that game (if his time has come and I kept my interest up) or give it away!

Years ago I was activating all the keys from bundles immediately no matter what is. But when I start to playing them one by one, I noticed that some of them are utter crap / shovelware etc. and I didn't want to see them in my library even if they're hidden, so I started to delete them via Steam support. 1/3 of my library diminished that time. I would probably do the same thing you do today, that's wise. :)
Though doing that also has some risks, like some keys can be revoked and be useless after some time. Never happened to me with Humble or Fanatical but you can see those topics on SG time to time.

At first I thought you're talking about game giveaways. But that's after I looked thrugh my game key list recently to figure out if I have enough for an event at SG, which I suppose means yes. :p
If I organised my time better had more time at my hands, I'd be playing more games in general. But as it stands, starting a game and dropping it midway is not something I like to do at all. So I generally wait with my games for periods of time where I have more time to play them from start to finish without sabotaging other parts of my life.
Also, for some reason, I think it's just proper to play winter games during winter. Somehows sets the mood and amplifies the experience. So I save winter themed games too.
Dunno why, but I don't do it with any other season...

I think you can say it's more or so the same habit. :)
Some other people also mentioned playing winter games in winter. It's probably because we spend more times at home when it's winter. And as exploring nature of humans we virtually go out and explore. Definitely agree with "sets the mood and amplifies the experience".

Just for the same reason, I have a category named "Potato" in my library, to find them easier later. I played SanctuaryRPG entirely on the go for example. Now I realized, games can be played without mouse also could be a useful category.
Cute penguin btw. :)

Hell yeah, Tomb Raider has to be played on New Year's Eve :D
It's a kind of tradition in Poland :)

Some journalist asked a random guy what is his plan for the new year's eve party and he said "i'm gonna play a game - Tomb Raider".
Now everyone wants to plan a new year's eve party like he did :)

There are a few games (Red Dead Redemption 2 being one of them) that I am waiting for a new video card before I play them. The one I currently have is fairly old, and even though I have a 1-year old gaming rig, the gpu would be the bottleneck (if it could even play the game at all!).

I do this with my old potato laptop, mostly for traveling reasons. And because of this I don't play those games on my desktop, even though I haven't traveled much since the pandemic started. Maybe I could act differently if the laptop could've run wide-range of games, not so sure. Besides this, there are also a couple of games I don't finish immediately so I can play them when I really crave a certain genre, and I know when it's time. Also, when it arrives Steam Deck might cause new habits on people, like keeping some games only on Deck.
Just wondering if you have some similar habits.
Also here are 5 songs from 5 Asian country. and a little something.
