So, I made my first forum GA here, but I can't find the key for the main unbundled GA, so I had no other choice but to delete the giveaway. I'm so sorry to everybody who entered.
I have no idea how it could happen, I have a little folder with all my keys, but this one is nowhere to be found.
It's the first time this happens to me, I'm so embarrassed :(
I'll be doing another forum giveaway in the next couple of days as some sort of apology :D
PS: The bundled train is still available if anyone is interested in some old X-COM games :)
Again, I'm so sorry :/

It you purchased it on a site you should be able to login and find it again.. at least for most.

As for me I keep any unused keys in a txt file on my dropbox. That way it can never truly vanish (and if my dropbox gets hacked, I'll have bigger things to worry about than a few game keys lol)

This. Maybe also you can find it just with a search of the game name in your mailbox.

Oh well! Though as a reminder for next time, you should probably check that you own whatever key/gift you're giving away before you make the actual giveaway. Our memories can play nasty tricks on us sometimes ^^

I know, I always do. I just was a bit nervous about the thread so I forgot to check this time. I'll be more careful next time ^^

only a true leech would be annoyed by losing points because you deleted the giveaway.

don't worry about it. :3

Especially if you deleted it over an honest mistake, rather than ignoring rules or some nonsense :)

I disagree. If you are not annoyed by losing points it would mean that either you don't use them in the first place, or SG is giving you too many to begin with. Most people agree that it's not the latter (refer to a discussion thread from last week-ish). So for the majority of the point-using population, anything that makes you lose points for something that is not your fault is an annoyance. No matter what you spend your points on, it means that you lose some of that possibility. With that said, there's a difference between being annoyed and assigning blame to the creator (in this case the OP) who in this case seems sympathetic and therefore I think everyone should be happy.
I can't stand people who blatantly delete giveaways and then hypocritically act like they had every right to without remorse, though. One of the most commonly logically faulty stock phrases on SG is the infamous variation of 'points are free, therefore you have no right to complain'
EDIT: :3

Annoyed about losing free points you use to get free games?
Ok ........

EDIT: and just because you you believe something to be "faulty logic" doesn't make it so. ;)

Logic is by definition objective truths. I realise that I haven't bothered to use any arguments so I cannot claim truth, so let's just agree to disagree for now :) I'm not in the mood for a heated debate and I know the majority of SG users would disagree with me anyway. I just wanted to make sure that someone would speak up for the other side as well.

i'd rather elevate the statement "points are free, therefore you have no right to complain" to "giveaways are free, therefore you have no right to complain".

i don't agree sorry , everyone makes mistake
i even deleted a gib that in the end i wanted to play on my own
the gib creator is in his own control until gib end to do what he feels like it, ofc i dont mean to create gibs to misslead ppl
and infact only want to troll em.
but you enter a giveaway and that has a chance to be deleted for any reason be it that you can't find a key and don't have the money to buy a new , or you decided to give it to a friend intead or actually want to add it to your library.

In case I didn't come across clearly, I said I don't like people who are openly remorseless and careless about deleting giveaways, not people who have valid reasons for doing so and/or even go as far as to apologize for it (such as OP). I just described some extremes, I'm not attempting to draw a line somewhere.

Happy cake day! don't worry...
as far as life has it, i'm sure you'll find the key right after all of the GA are done.
have you checked the door? maybe you left it outside?

Had same issues with old SteamGifts site, made a giveaway then days later forgot where did I put that key. This one has this nice feature that allows you to save the key when creating a GA, I suggest always use it :)

Curious, How does one make a giveaway without the key?
I know that you can click gift instead of keys to give the keys after the giveaway ends but why would you do that?
If you have a key you are giving away why hold on to it/not chock that you actually have it?
I'm not mad I'm just curious how that logic works.

For the times I've done it, it's mainly because I've been making a batch of giveaways which can be a bit of a chore so I've just left it until the giveaways were over. I check my winners at the end anyway to see if they're rule breakers and whether or not I need a re-roll so putting the key in afterwards isn't much more work on top of that.

All that said, I don't personally have the problem of not knowing I actually have it when I do that, because when I'm making my giveaways in batches I'm referncing my list of keys to know which games to make giveaways for. I'm just not putting the keys in to save time at the front end of things.

Since I'm used to do public giveaways, I just write "-" where the key goes, and after the giveaway ends, I check the winner for regifting, double wins, wins not activated, etc. If everything is ok, I copy the key where it goes, if not, I ask for a reroll :)

You can just select the "Gift" option when creating the giveaways, too, then add the key when it's over.

Even if you paste your key before creating, it doesn't get send automaticly. You can still check the winner and decide not to send it and ask for a reroll.
