I can buy any of these two laptops, whose specs are below:

HP 15-ak017tx :

  1. 16GB RAM
  2. GTX 950m DDR3L 4GB Graphics
  3. Intel 6th Generation Corei7(3.0GHZ)
  4. 1TB HDD

Lenovo Y50-70:

  1. 8GB RAM
  2. NVIDIA GTX 960M 2GB Graphics
  3. Core i7- 4720HQ (2.6GHz)
  4. 1TB 8GB SSD

I know there are other better laptops, but these are the two I can afford.
Lenovo one has better graphics but the HP one has more RAM...
Any advice is appreciated :)

Which one should i get?

Lenovo
HP

the Lenovo seems way better. does the HP even have 4 cores, or is it a 2-core-i7? and can you add RAM to the Lenovo later? i bet you can. add 8 more GB, and this laptop is fantastic.

EDIT: the HP does have 4 cores. in that case i am not so sure anymore. ^^

Lenovo. Touch displays in laptops are really bad, believe me. i have one at work. i never had any practical application for it. all it does is annoy me.

The gpu in hp is 4gb while the lenovo is 2gb,although the lenovo has GTX 960m while HP has GTX 950m
This is whats confusing me...

i would argue that those cards are both so weak that the ram probably doesn't matter too much. you can't crank up most games anyway.

maybe you should look out for a third alternative?

I also found another option
Dell Inspiron 15-7559
8 GB RAM
GTX 960m 4GB
INTEL QUAD CORE I5 6TH GENERATION 6300HQ 2.3GHz
1TB HDD

What do u think of this?

I cant tell you technical reason for that but my girlfriend has HP with touchscreen and damn i hate that thing :D It's just doesnt feel right + regular pad seems somehow clunkier. I guess they want you to use their gimmick.

cause when they malfunction, you get fucking rouge clicks, random hold clicks etc so you need to disable it. And even if you disable it, they still consume battery power.

You get less battery time on them. Your productivity slows down if you try to substitute touch clicking vs touchpad or mouse.

I would suggest then doing some research on how each of them is cooled down. You can cram as much power as you want in laptop but if it will overheat there's no point in that power.

Few years back i myself bought 'gaming laptop' and boy it was bad decision. It had plenty of power but overheated like crazy and that power was wasted basically. Now i have 8gb of ram for facebook browsing :D . So yeah, look into that.

You can easily find Lenovo with also gtx960m 4GB. I will also suggest a SSD drive (128 GB or more). From what i know Lenovo with i7 can get high temperatures in stress. Its only is minus but concerns models from others company also.

Difficult to choose between those two. Yes, the Lenovo has a better Nvidia GPU but the HP has a newer processor and DDR4 RAM vs DDR3 from the Lenovo because the HP has a Skylake processor: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04855637

CPU comparison

The CPUs are equivalent but the HP is newer...

I have the Lenovo Y70-70 and it overheats and shuts down whenever I play a demanding game for more than a few minutes. Plus its keyboard is pretty bad and the touch screen occasionally acts up and makes mouse input impossible until I put the laptop to sleep and back. In short, not a good buy.

Im talking about the y50-70,which my friend owns for an year now,i have not seen such problems,he plays JC3, GTA V, MGS V TPP and FO4 with ease...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Okay. The problem also exists with the y50-70 (googled it), but I guess it's the luck of the draw.

Other than this, just based on specs, the 950m will be a lot slower than the 960m, so if you main use is gaming, that's a consideration. For more serious use I think that 16GB is much better than 8GB, but the Y50-70 is upgradeable, so it's not a big deal. From a little browsing, it also looks like the Y50-70 has better battery life, if you care about that.

Idk your price range, but I looked at a gaming laptop last month that was $800.

Dell Gaming Laptop

Also a YouTube Video talking about it as well

Edit: Lol, scrolled up and saw that you know of it. But I guess you can look at the vid to see what they say about it.

Sincerely, I would advice you to look at ASUS N series (n552). I have n551, very good all around. Weakest part is slow 5400 rpm HDD. As extra advice - remove DVD-RW and in that place install a caddy rack with SSD.
One year ago I had similar choice to yours and never regretted for what I bought.

Holy crap, enjoy the Lenovo Y50-70. I refunded that damn thing cause the screen malfunctions even though I sent it to a Lenovo repair shop. The screen produces white horizontal lines and flashes like a rave party.

46 pages about the screen problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y70-screen-flashing-blinking/td-p/1839531

P.S. ~ The "solution" from the URL above is not a solution at all. An admin suggested updating the BiOS but that did not do anything to fix the screen problem.

Could you tell us something more?

  1. Where would you buy it, so we can see if there's anything better;
  2. what will be your main use for it;
  3. how much can you spend?

Out of the two you mentioned, the HP one has the better processor and a touchscreen, while the Lenovo one has a (slightly) better graphic card, and better hard drive. (more RAM is useful only if you use professional software)
Whatever you get, just be sure to purge it of the bloatware (especially if choosing Lenovo).

I'd personally go for the better graphics card if you're going to game on it. Otherwise I'd go with the better CPU. RAM (when deciding between 8 or 16) isn't going to be that relevant in most cases. There aren't that many programs that use that much. I doubt I would even notice the difference.
