It probably ended already as it has nothing to do with region restriction, i am from Europe too and it worked, now it doesn't seem to work for anyone anymore.
Nothing on their twitter or facebook, must have been a bug or short giveaway.

EU IP not even work, no any confrim mail.
RU VPN works, mail come but price on is $8.99. Also account created from RU IP and reloged to EU not work, still paid game.
Wont try anymore, too much work for free game if its not working normally.
ALSO, full price $9? Game seems like $0,19 full price or free flash game.
