Been playing some ol' Orcs must Die 2 fun and I'm looking around for similar games.

I don't know what it is about Tower Defense Games but also being able to fight, but it's just plain fun for me! I'm trying to find other games that are similar. Currently looking at Sanctum.

Anyone have other recommendations?

Look at Sanctum 2 then. Sanctum 1 is horribly balanced compared to the sequel.

Would not say that. Sanctum 1 was imo better than the sequel.

There are some players who liked the first one better, but the more common opinion I meet (and share) is that Sanctum 2 had a better balance in general. In towers, player weapons, even level challenge by enemy design and health. Also, levels felt a lot less running around and trying to find that one good camping spot, and had a general overall good design, although the aesthetics of Sanctum 1 were better.

Sanctum 1 just had more reliance on having people to play with, which is why I could never really play it. Way too hard to play solo.

I would definitely recommend Sanctum 2. Fun, option to play co-op, and works on Windows (and Linux). What's not to love?

Dungeon Defenders was pretty good too (the first one... second one is F2P which I'm not really into). But I liked Sanctum 2 more.

Plants VS Zombies, of course! Not similar to Orcs must die or what you may have on your mind, but one of the best TD games ever made with great humor!

I have over 900 hours in PvZ on Steam lol. It really is a great game. I also liked Fort Defense, though it's much simpler so only play on highest difficulty.

You could start with Dungeon Defenders 2, it's free and pretty fun (even more with friends).

Sanctum mixes tower defense with FPS, so you always can try Sanctum 2, and if you like those mix, you can check Defender's Quest, if I'm not mistaken, it's a tower defense mixing RPG elements.

You can try Revenge of the titans. It's good and it looks good and nice.

I have no idea how Dungeon Defenders 2 is now, but the beta was boring... but I tried the first stange of the beta. Probably the game has content now.

Depends. in some you build the tower in some you are the assault.
although the assault ones are better, since they have pretty story and so on and arent plain.

You only build as the aliens and only in the last two games but yes, tower assault is the best\main thing about Anomaly, aside from Anomaly, I don't know any other game that does this, everything else is just a simple tower defense, Anomaly I a safely underrated under credited unique genre innovator, sad that Defenders was the last game as 11 Bit Studios moved onto Spacecom and This War Of Mine while leaving it behind. Awesome story progression with awesome voice acting and dialogue, cool military tech units and upgrades, awesome graphics and tower destruction combat in the intense difficult increasing exciting thrilling gameplay , powerups, unique resource, varying strategies of unit combos, paths to take, what to destroy first, mobile versions and ports of all games, awesome but saddly now dead franchise. Tower Defense still reigns supreme.

Most of the suggestions above are indeed great tower defense games but in my opinion not similar to Orcs Must Die type.
Orcs Must Die it's more like a TPS Trap Defense !! x)

Dungeon Defenders it's a well balanced one.
In the basic mode(campaign) you control a hero too, but the combat style it's more like an RPG than a FPS or TPS (unless you choose the Hunter class).
It's really fun, challenging and addictive (even more if you can play with some friends - up to 4).

The sequel it's a f2p but I played only a little time during the initial beta phase (same thing for Orcs Must Die! Unchained).

Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves it's a very good one too and it's actually free (because they are preparing the sequel) !
It's very similar to Orcs Must Die (less intense in combat because the map is a big florest and you have to move a lot) but it's a TPS based in traps too and has a great story.
This one must be your choice if you want stick in Orcs Must Die similar style.

If you're ok with single player games then the first Orcs must Die with the DLC. ^^

925 play hours on record and having killed 1000000+ orcs, ogres, bats and the like with so much very nice traps and pleasant combo's. :3

Agreeing with the above - Defense Grid is the way to go. DG2 is all right, but I think the first one is brilliant.

I prefer Super Sanctum TD, the isometric perspective seems to fit it better than a first person view in my opinion.
About other suggestions I can think right now, Terrorhedron is nice.

Kingdom Rush, Defender's Quest, PvZ, Defense Grid,...

Now 2 names that haven't been mentioned yet:
Evil Defenders and OTTTD

both are great TD games!

If someone wants to try a strategic non generic Tower Defense I really recommend Revenge of the Titans.
It's really different from the classic style (the map and the tower upgrades/research system, the waves style, ..., almost everything is unique).
It could be really refreshing for some players or a total mess for anothers ¯\(ツ)/¯.

TDs that are similar to Orcs must Die are pretty rare. Sanctum, Dungeon Defenders, Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves and Deathtrap are all I know.
