"A pair of Czech developers working for Bohemia on Arma 3 has been arrested while taking photographs and recording video footage of a military base in the Greek island of Lemnos.

The developers, aged 28 and 33 have been accused of espionage, reports Greek newspaper News237, adding that they were found with footage and photographs of Greek military instalments.

Bohemia Interactive top dog Marek Spanel has since confirmed the incident on the company’s official forum."

It's their own fault, imho. Taking pictures of military bases is forbidden in almost every country...

I don't know how much trouble they're in exactly but this is just too funny... I mean come on, can you imagine the two Bohemia neckbeards taking pictures of a secret military base, completely unaware of the situation, while Greek soldiers sneak up on them? LOL

Well , it is stupid to photograph military bases without permission especially when it is known to be forbidden worldwide and there are a dozen signs around that say "no photos" . Also the island has high military value and is close to the naval borders with Turkey.

The Greeks are definitely right to be pissed, after all the game is a simulator that could help to take over this base...

Well yeah although I don't think the game will be that helpful to anybody for this purpose , and the enemy in such a case would probably already have his own intel anyway, but still you don't photograph military equipment and installations just like that. If they did it in the US they would probably be sent to guantanamo right away and the game would be banned :P

At least people understand why this case is serious for the authorities instead of jumping on the bandwagon to blindly defend the devs

Buy Arma 3 and bail a dev out of jail?

This might work for a gangsta rap "artist" but I don't see it working out for Bohemia. With the success of Day Z they really don't need this to increase sales.

Apart from making them look stupid this doesn't accomplish much. Not to mention they keep postponing the release date for Arma 3, I doubt having 2 devs in jail to bail out will help them make more money or achieve their deadlines... I think you're reading too much into this.

Lol. They just payed a little amount of money, from a devs perpectiv, and Arma 3 got attention.

Advertisment departments mission acomplished. You know, a NATIONAL TV add can cost over 500.000$. They just payed 25000$ for this "advert". Do the math.

They haven't paid anything yet, the $12,800 fine was in a different case.

Do you really think they will go to jail.... They have enough money to handle that. And it will still be cheaper than a TV add. And it is one of a kind advertisment.

I feel bad for these guys and their families, but seriously, how could they not know that they were doing something wrong? Innocent motivations or not, filming or photographing military bases without permission has always been illegal.

Because advertising online or on TV is to mainstream.... Advertise it that way..

They will get those 25.000$ back for sure.... And they couldn't have made a TV add for 25.000$...... Very clever.
