All right, this is my opinion on the games.
DayZ has the most potential out of all these survival games, but the development has been incredibly slow and it's very far from a polished state, despite the fact that it launched on early access one year and a half ago, so I would postpone buying it.
H1Z1 hasn't been released that long ago and development seems to be going decently, but it's still far from finished, it's going to be free to play and it's already showing signs of pay to win, despite the fact that you have to pay for early access. Right now, the only fun part of H1Z1 are Battle Royales and you will need to buy tickets in order to join those after the game comes out of early access.
I really wouldn't recommend buying either of them, but it's really up to you. Battle Royales are fun and you're probably enjoy them, but paying $20 just for those and for a limited time is not something I would do, DayZ is not fun right now and development is very slow.

I was a DayZ player, but it was long ago, before i feel that we will never see the end of the alpha (i hope i'm wrong)
so i moved on Epoch Mod for Arma3.
It have all or almost all, i wanted to see in DayZ: permanent base for you stuff, boats, cars, choppers... and a lot of pvp
so if you own Arma, i suggest you to try this:
http://www.epochmod.com/
it's on the workshop since 3 weeks, so dont need to bother to donwnload and install anymore.

Please explain why you prefer the Epoch Mod.
I have played some mods that claim to be the next DayZ to get some variety, but I personally think they completely differ from DayZ. So much so that they can't be compared in my opinion.
In Epoch Mod you get weapons and equipment way too fast. The fact that the game has that many vehicles is a matter of taste, but it's nice tho. The "zombies" there piss me off, you rarely see them actually. Overall much harder than DayZ tho considering the AI of the NPCs etc.

yep the Z dont really matters in epoch you're right.
I would say, in Dayz there just here for others players to spot you, so, i dont really care for them.
The big thing, for me, in Epoch is the ability of craft items for build a base, and save items and vehicules.
I also like the fact that you can play only pvp if you want, or only be a looter, or a bit of both.
for me, it's less frustrating than Dayz cause, as you said, you find loot preaty easily,, thanks to traders, even so i see a lot a guys complaining that they never found what they need.

I haven't played H1Z1, but have DayZ, and I say it's gonna be a pretty cool game if they'll manage to implant the things they want to (agriculture to infectious plagues and so on). The plans are very desperate and need time to implement.
Many people whine because early access is so long, but I'd rather have a polished game later than a clunky release now. One can only judge it when it's released not before, or take your chances to buy it now and have a wreck at release. There's a chance, noone can say for sure.

On the long run DayZ will be hopefully a good game, I have already ~170h IIRC
H1Z1 is a pay2(probably)win, and will probably get worse when will go on F2P

I haven't played H1Z1 but the fact that they implemented P2W aspects already pisses me off. Don't know if they are still there tho.
Overall it seemed polished and almost done, but on the other hand less realistic and easier in order for you to get guns and vehicles.
Only thing I like about it is that there are some sort of quests if I remember that correctly.
DayZ on the other hand is of course still in early access so you can't fully judge it yet, but in my opinion it is something very special and the pioneer for its genre. It is realistic, atmospheric and you become really careful as soon as you experience what it is like to die with a fully equipped character.
The downpoint to this is the community. I bought it because I have seen videos of bandits robbing heroes and heroes capturing bandits, but the truth is that Kill on Sight is a very common thing and as soon as you die a few times you will probably kill on sight as well.
But for that reason there are whitelist servers, roleplay servers etc. So that's something you can get rid of.
But you really need to get yourself into this. It's no Call of Duty. You will experience several hours without combat and will walk long distances. I personally find it very enjoyable since it is a contrast to games like Payday 2 where you have to be on a constant rush and get judged by what you do and not do. In DayZ I enjoy just walking around, looting and surviving.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not good or all the same.

I own dayz and I am really disappointed. Almost 2 years have passed and there has been practically no development progress. If I understand the biggest dayz problem is that it's built on an engine that can't support a lot of players. At the moment I don't see very bright future for the game. Even dayz mod has a lot more content. Dayz standalone was a very successful cash grab for them.
I don't own H1 Z1 but I have heard that behind this game is the same team that developed Planetside 2 (a quite successful online game) H1Z1 even has the same platform which can support a lot of players on 1 server. So I would say that at the moment H1Z1 looks much better and it has knocked dayz off of Steam top selling list quite far down.

The question is, what are you looking for from this type of game? I personally don't want to play any of them because of their checkered history, the trolling by other players etc.

I have DayZ, but right now, I'm not liking it.
I had H1Z1 when it first came out, but didn't work properly, so I got a refund.
Now onto the main part of this topic.
Out of both games, what game seems more playable?
What about the pros and cons for both?
