Do you use shady key stores?
The poll results are fascinating so far, given that non-anonymous sentiments tend to run significantly against such sites and practices.
Even accounting for 'well, I dislike it, but if it's there..' sentiments, it's still a good third of the votes so far.
Guess we see how such sites continue to do so well... :X

Very rarely, so far ive only used Kinguin, bought around 5 games there.
Usually i just search for good deals on isthereanydeal

I have bought on g2a once. had no problem though. it was a preorder from MGS5.
I dont plan to use it as much but sometimes a good deal like they have is welcoming.

i wonder how many key sellers on steamtrades get their keys from those key sites. ^^
that is why i always bought gifts, nearly no keys here.

Not quite sure if the sites I buy games from are shady, but I have often wondered how the price can be so low for new games. I think they are legit though, or at least their site looks professional, and have not had a problem with any games I bought from them so far.
Mostly cdkeys.com, gog.com, greenmangaming.com and the usual Bundle Stars and Humble Bundle. But I usually just load up during Steam sales for the most part. If anyone has any horror stories about any of those site, please let me know, as I am assuming they are legit.

I mainly buy from steam myself during sales :) also from humble bundle and thats about it ;p though tempting i just dont want to risk it.

my first game was bought over 6 years ago in g2play, a warhammer chaos rising key :3
later i tried to buy some useless deus ex dlc on another site, got some issues because they asked my id with a photo and i refused. i threatened with reporting them for fraud on paypal and they sent me the stupid key 10 minutes later. -.-
never bought anything again from resellers.

One of my first games was from a shady reseller, I had no idea at that time if that's a "bad" thing or not...I even had to activate it via VPN.
I'm not using any of these sites nowadays though.

Used Kinguin once, buying 2 or 3 Steam Gifts of Alien vs. Predator when it got removed from the store, thinking I was being clever and I could profit off them. Then the game came back to the store a few days later.
Don't really want to touch these kind of sites otherwise.

They have cancelled every single preorder I've placed; most of the time it was just cancelled without notice, but another time the vendor didn't deliver my key for two days so I got a refund and purchased it from someone who actually delivered.

I bought Warhammer Vermintide from GMG recently and the first two keys they gave me were duplicates. The third one finally worked but it took 4 days to sort it all out. The sad part is most of these gray market sellers have better customer service than the authorized ones. If something feels shady to you and you don't feel comfortable than don't buy from them. You can save money by buying from anywhere outside of steam, but you give up your ability to refund.

This issue is a bit contentious for me since I've made/posted a pretty large amount of replies right here on the SG trade forum section inquiring about game trades for PP and non-game stuff. So it would be terribly hypocritical of me to absolutely condemn the use of grey market game key websites. As such I'm not the morality police on places like Penguin-with-a-stupid-hat; if it's your money, then it's your choice and your prerogative on what you do with it.
That said, however, I take great umbrage whenever I see people posting about how it's "legit" just because you haven't had any problems with it or how just because it's an E-sports sponsor somehow automatically makes it legitimate or how we're idiots for daring to buy it from actual legitimate sources and being guaranteed to never have it revoked. I also really hate how when people speak up on the truths on taking your chances on these kinds of websites (game might be stolen, key might be revoked, etc.) 90% of the time there will be someone that shouts down the person that informed others of the risks, with their arguments consisting mostly of the above.
TL;DR: If you're informed of the risks and know what might happen and you still want to go forward with it, then by all means go for it; we're not stopping you, we're just offering the truth.

Yep. I don't like it; I'd rather buy from reputable resellers and legitimate channels, but if I miss a sale and they're reselling the game at a great rate or taking advantage of regional pricing I don't have access to, even though the key activates in my region, I use shady resellers. It's not a preference, it's a necessity; as a student without a job at the moment I can't afford to drop $60 on a new game, but if there's a significant discount, I'm mercenary enough to take it.

Nahhh, I don't use resellers, unless I think they're verified. For example, there is no way I'd use g2a or those sorts, just because of the issues some have. Yet I purchase many keys from sits like GMG and Gamersgate, because I know I can trust these sites from my experience and other's. Even humble store can have pretty good sales.

Most of my library I bought from such kind of site (because I'm poor, need to buy from russian resselers). Only once I had a problem with gift, that was bought with stolen credit. Steam revoked the game, but the site gave me money back. So it's k fror me.

I have bought several times (15ish) from G2A; almost all purchases were for removed games from steam and every time was cheaper and ofc much less time consuming than chasing that games over steamtrades or other trading sites. Only thing I got pissed about are "hidden fees" they are adding to advertised price eg last game I paid was 3.7e; they added 0.40e as "Additional cost" for paying with pp.

I have bought a good dozen removed games on G2A and Kinguin.
I disabled the G2A and kinguin shield because if you use them once they keep coming monthly.
Also there are coupons to find for Kinguin (mostly 3%) and for G2A (mostly higher % coupons than Kinguin).
I didn't go for the cheapest sales on the 2 sites because I look more for sales (like on SG trades) from people with good rep preferably 100% rating. Also look at the flags/nationality of the sellers.
Also I take a decent look/read the icons and description of the posted games on those sites (like one should read the SG giveaway OP posts).

I don't see anything wrong buying from shady re-sellers. Especially when EU gets the same pricing in all countries despite salary differences up to 5 or even more times.
But there's barely any game cheaper than on funstockdigital, GMG, nuuvem or other legit seller.
But maybe i should mention i never use kinguin and G2A, they suck and full of scammers because everyone can sell the keys. I use one store which selling the keys by themselves so it's much more trustworthy.

Havent used the 2 sites most of the posts in this thread mention, i use this http://www.cdkeys.com site and have never had a problem.

why does everybody always say "i never had problems"? ^^ of course you most likely didn't have problems. else those sites would not be in the business anymore. the success rate is probably above 99%. what is more interesting in my opinion: do you have doubts about where the keys you buy there come from? do you have a problem with potentially buying stolen keys? is the money you save worth the risk (no matter how small it might be)? would you stop buying there once you had your first revoked key?

Hmmm ok ill answer your questions,
Do i have doubts about where the keys i buy came from? -If it works i dont really care tbh.
Do i have a problem with potentially buying stolen keys? -again im afraid if it works i dont really care.
Is the money i save worth the risk? -yes.
Would i stop buying if i had a key revoked? -most probably yes?
Let the sitting in judgement commence.

I also buy from CDKeys, and have never had a problem. The reason we say this though, or at least I do, is because aside from buying directly from Steam, is there really a way to know if any store is legit or shady? It seems legit, but any 3rd party reseller could infact be shady. The only thing a person can really go off of, is word of mouth, and if others have never had problems either.
I personally would stop buying from a store if I found out they were selling stolen keys ect.. Even if I didn't have one revoked. And not because of the risk of losing my key, but because of the principle of it.
Edit: Just noticed in a post a bit higher on here, you mentioned you buy games from GMG. So your in the same boat as the rest of us. I am assuming you believe your game you bought from there is legit. But unless someone you hear has a problem, or you yourself, you are going to assume the site is legit. Can you prove it is? Probably not. If you were to recommend to a friend, you would probably say you assume its a legit site, and that you have purchased games there before and never had a problem.

The average person doesn't care about breaking the rules and bending the letter of the law as long as the risk of getting busted is small. We have a proverb that roughly translates to "The jug treks to the well as long as it doesn't break". Meaning if the risk is small and the wronged party is some faceless thing (corporations or more often the state itself), they continue not caring about ethics in the favour of their pockets until they get caught or burned. And sometimes not even after that. hence why G2A thrives and will thrive until it gets shut down and restarted under a different name.

So, I was always against those shady key resellers. You can never be sure where they got the copy. There have been problems in the past. People got their games revoked. There were even some incidents where stolen keys have been sold. Until end of last year I wasn't even thinking about using those stores. There was no reason anyway, since the trading market allowed cheap Steam copies from Russia, Brazil etc. So often you could get the same price, while getting a Steam gift (known origin) instead of a shady key. But now that everything is region locked, most games cost 60€ or close to that. You can't really save money anymore. I am someone who buys lots of games. And that's not really possible anymore with those prices. So I have to admit, I already used a key store for one game. And I am thinking about whether the money saved is worth the risk. Whether I should use those stores more often now. I am still struggling with the idea. Worst case would be a stolen key, I guess. And even if that (probably) doesn't happen very often - I don't want to pay for stolen goods.
What are your thoughts about that? Do you use those stores? Are you aware of all the negative aspects, and does it bother you?
Anno 2205 is released now. And I am really thinking, if I should buy a Uplay key on those sites for half the price...
