I know it's always the game key that makes the game cut or not, and not the region where you activate it .

Though, some sites send you cut keys when paying with a German paypal/credit card.

Anonye bought one of these games and can confirm whether it activates as ROW, WW or DE key?

I cut potatoes.

I bought from GMG once for another game and it's region locked.

I'm afraid I can't confirm for certain if those games are region locked in the manner you are asking. But I know from experience GMG will issue regional keys depending on the publisher. And I know from experience that Bethesda is one of the publishers that GMG issues regional keys for (Skyrim, etc). So I'd be very cautious about those Fallout keys...

I'm afraid it'd be a gamble then. Hence why I hoped that someone here had bought it.

Also found this topic before I created mine:

I hope you get a better answer from someone who knows for sure - but that topic seems to suggest it would be OK. If you aren't already in it then there is a steam group that usually has pretty good info on this kind of thing - http://steamcommunity.com/groups/foruncut

I am uncut and I am using uncut games :-)
I think it is about where you activate, I heard that if you buy ROW key bought anywhere and activate it in German, you will get cut version.

And here I thought that's exactly not the case.

Steam isn't checking your region when activating a key. It's the key that decides whether it's ROW or DE in the first place.
At least it was like that for humble bundle keys.

^that's correct. It's the key that decides which version u get, DE, ROW, RU etc..

you're buying uncut games, if you had a german IP, some games will be german editions from the steam (or other) store

Ask their support. I guess they are uncut, since everything there was uncut a while back, but now some deals are unavailable in their German version oif the store.

They're obligated to tell me that they're cut. Otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to sell them to Germany.

No. Their store isn't located in Germany and they therefore can sell you whatever they want.

My experience is that often they don't know themselves. I asked them about this before I bought a Fallout 3 GOTY key from them, and they told me it would be cut. It activated as uncut fine, though.

There was a similiar situation Humble Borderlands Bundle. When I, living in Poland, activated my key for Borderlands 1 it was WW, but, when some dude from Germany, activate the 'same' key from 1$TIER his version popped up as DE (cut). After long discussion on steam forums, guys figured out that it depends on location of a buyer (at least in HB case). When shop 'see' you have German adress, or German bank it gives you DE version, but when you buy it from other country it gives you WW/uncut edition of game. Some other dude, from USA, stated that he even bought keys from his account for his friends from Germany, and after activation they had normal/uncut versions of games.

So maybe htat's the case? If you know someone abroad, ask them to buy it for you.

They give you keys based on your region.

Obviously they don't always. Most shops give keys based on the payment method.

P.S. sorry for writing in german, but I think I can explain better in my own language.
I told him that GMG is selling region-based Keys and that Steam already did activate ROW-Keys as DE-Versions (german).

Nope, the Humble Bundle keys were already cut in the first place.

Sorry that's not true, for the Borderlands Bundlekeys you got the cencored Version in Steam, even if The Keys werden bought by an american and traded to germany. In that case Steam cencored it. Read this:http://steamcommunity.com/groups/foruncut/discussions/0/598199244893439995/#p2

Or here answer from HB support:
"Unfortunately as you've seen, the uncensored version of Borderlands is not available in your region. We distribute the same keys to people in all regions, but Steam will automatically redeem the low violence version in Germany. We do not have access to any keys that would make the uncensored version available in your region."

AFAIK this was The 2nd time Steam did that (first was DeepSilver Rebundle with SR2+3). In the time before you are right, but now Steam changed there something

@schwachi197
That's wrong. I had an American friend send me a ROW Borderlands key, and it activated ROW.

I didn't even realize that Fallout 3 is censored in Germany? o.O ..oh well, I bought Fallout 3 and it just redeemed as: "Fallout 3 Retail" .. So it should be fine, I guess. Normally it's written DE after you activate a key if it's cut.

You need to buy using VPN.

I bought one key a long time ago from GMG for that game for my friend, it was ROW uncut.

I'm in Germany and I bought Fallout 3 GOTY and New Vegas Ultimate Edition from them back in... March, I think. I used Paypal and they both activated in Steam as uncut versions. I also bought the Portal bundle from them and Portal 1 activated as the normal version, whereas it's usually a low violence version for us.

Did you pay with a German paypal?

Keep in mind that New Vegas UE is always uncut for Germans, even on Steam. As long as you never had the base game bought, the UE comes without censorship.

GMG is in EU, so they have region policy. So far the only Steam key reseller that is 100% guaranteed to not have German region keys that I know of is Nuuvem.
On the other hand there are games with Brazil-only locks… but to my knowledge Saint's Row and FO3 are not among them. (FO3 I'm sure of).
