Hello guys and gals,

Next month is a special birthday for me as something personal is going to happen on that day.
i'm not going to tell what but its pretty awesome for me.
Anyway, i would like to say that i'm not a guy who goes around spamming thanks on every giveaway i enter as i believe thats just bull.
I wouldn't want everyone to say thanks when i'm giving away, as long as the winner does it after recieving its oke.
But to show that i'm really no "leech" or whatever kids call people like me these days i came up with this plan.
I hope you guys will like it.

December being a holiday month for everyone, but i will up the stakes.
I will create a group next month with a max cap of 31 people.
31 Games will be given away(i will buy them as soon as i know wich one i want to give)
There will be some decent games, awesome ones and a few "lesser" indie games(sometimes indie can prove even better)
so 1 december i start the give aways but when you win one, you get kicked out of the group.
Everyone in the group will win a game eventually :)

As i said 31 days = 31 people but i reserve 6 slots to people i know IRL and to the ones from wich i recieved a gift after winning a giveaway :)

So basicly i will invite 25people in the group.
I would love some feedback on this idea and also some ideas about how to select the "25" :)

Remember: DONT be greedy :)

EDIT: The one that provides me with the ultimate idea for choosing the 25 people will be invited as one of my "6"

this is a pretty cool idea you got here :D. Wonder what you're so excited about, are you getting a new car :)
i hope i get invited cause groups are always fun, and if i don't, i congratulate the winners. oh and
HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY :)

maybe whoever has the best percentage of received giveaways according to how many they've given away, as in 30 received out of 30 would be better than 20 received out of 20. maybe something like that

Hmm sounds like a great idea... But how to select the members I'm not sure off

To select ppl I would make a list, having first classified them with the parameters you consider and leaving out the rest (Comment/entry ratio, contributions, win/entry ratio whatsoever) Then make a random selection with a website that does that, stream it (streams are always good) and then invite the lucky winners.

I guess I don't fit on any of those criteria I have proposed, but well life is harsh.

Happy Birthay BTW :D

A early happy b-day from me ^^ I'm not sure how you could invite the "right" 31 people for your group. It may be better to do it with just friends or on your friendslist. But you might not know the people on your friendslist that well.

I do see what could be a minor problem; the last few people who have not won anything, might not enter your giveaways if they don't find it to their taste. Or the last one is more or less "forced" to accept the last giveaway, because there are no alternatives.

So I suggest you do make it clear from the start that they should only join if they want the game (to curb their potential greed) and that you only give away 31 games and no more. If someone has not won a game by the time you have created 31 giveaways, I would say, tough luck :P And perhaps use the games left for a public (or different group) giveaway with or without contribution value.

Yeah, i was actually thinking of making a rule stating if you join the group you'll have to enter EVERY day.
So when invite 31 people they won't choose their games.
Everyday someone wins so even if its something you did'nt really like its still a free game. Win=Win.
Also people won't be able to win 2 games as they get kicked after winning their first games. That way everyone will win. Maybe not the game they really wanted but still. I won't be telling wich games can be won so its not like they can wait for a certain game.

What if they own the games that remain in the end, and not win any beforehand?
:D

OMG why is people so negative thinking? xD Haha, no you have a valid point :) I could make a rule for that: If you happen to be in that position you can choose another game of the same price value and i'll just give the game they allready had away in a open giveaway :)

I'm really not trying to be negative - I think it's a great idea and a great chance for people, but are you planning to create the giveaways for Steamgifts? Because they're bound by the Terms & Agreement, etc., to activate and add that game to their library. I.E., they can't turn around and give it away (or they can't enter for games they already own). What about a raffle-type for the games? Each draws a number and they can do a "white elephant" type of trade-off after that? Where each game is assigned a number (or each person is assigned a number). If you want it to count for Steamgifts points, once all the numbers are claimed, create private giveaways and whoever has that number is the only one that can enter it.

As for choosing the other to enter the group...thinks You could mix it up. Instead of picking all 25 from one "event", I like Razuto's idea (further down - you commented on it) where you have various events and you pick one qualifier for each event. If you have multiple people who get the correct answer, I'd suggest a "rematch" of sorts (if you use the numbers bit, choose a new number and re-play the game...) until you have a final, completely random, winner (instead of just the first person who gets it right - equal chance to win for everyone entering within a certain period).

It depends on if you want -anything- out of it? Art? Literature? Humor? Pure fun? Maybe then I can come up with a better idea?

Also, Happy pre-Birthday and congratulations on your Career Lvl Up Achievement! (I'm guessing it's a lvl up as you said it was career-related.)

Just wanted to point out that from what I have read you don't get contributor value if only one person enters a private giveaway.

If you want the points that bad, have everyone enter like 2 (or however many are needed) giveaways and reroll until you get the right winner (winner, chicken dinner!)? I don't know if the creator rerolls or if rerolls are requested because I'm still newish, but....there are likely ways to figure that out? Or just....I don't know.

happy birthday on whatever it is! must be epic :D
as for choosing, i'm not sure how. i think personal judgement is best though it'd probably be biased, but nothing is really ever neutral. if you could look at their steam profile and base it off that with your own criteria. it shouldn't be entirely based on contribution alone to the site, there can be reasons as to why someone contributes more then others. such as employment or unemployment. Totally random isnt such a bad idea either, as you could determine that fairly enough i would think.
having people give you reasons as to why they should be in it, isnt fair either as thats kind of like being greedy "you should pick me! cause blaah blah bull blaah"

dont know if my opinion helped but those are my thoughts on it

Yeah every thought helps so thanks alot :) I would'nt take contribution as the sole reason and comment/giveaway ratio especially not as i explained in my post why i don't spam thanks to much :)

good point, i wont lie i do say thanks to most of the giveaways i enter, only for the reason that i thank people just for giving away the game and having the chance to win it, i do try to be active in the forums though, well starting to. sometimes i just like to sit back and see what everyone else says and if i have something to say then i'll say it

don't understand me wrong here because i really have no problem with people that do like to say thanks :)
Everyone is entitled to do as he/she pleases. My point is only that even if people don't say thanks in the giveaway that doesn't mean there ungratefull(maybe lazy, and that i can understand xD )
Yesterday i've won my first giveaway(second one but first was that beta key for icarus)and after he had sent me the key trough mail i told him to add me on steam so i could invite him as one of my 6

right that was my mistake, thanks for making that clear! i understand it better! i am a lazy one too aha and oh you did? checks profile nice :) dota 2! its a difficult game i must say and its fun but i found it hard to get into! but i like playing games like it, i'd be playing awesomenauts right now if i wasnt working on a project. congrats!
what exactly are the 6? like is there a special role for them?

no its just 3 friends that i know IRL and the one guy who gaveaway dota2 + the guy who will give me the ultimate idea for choosing 25 people and 1 left if i happen to win another giveaway meanwhile. If i don't win i'll just select someone who is very active on this site and never won but did a giveaway

oh i see! well looking at all the ideas, i must say they are all good and i cant think of any else at the moment...
i'm not saying this because i would like to be one of the 25 (which i do though), but what about picking some people who took the time to actually give feed back to you in this thread? like thoughtful feed back, not something so generic as thanks but just picking some people who gave you something to think about . its about the only idea i havent read here so far, might as well throw it out there :)

I would vote for people who deserve it too. Maybe pick a combination of people that you deem as assets to the community and those that have very small gaming libraries.

How about letting everyone choose a number, maybe between 1 and 1000. Then just use a random number generator to pick 25 people. Quick, easy and totally random so there's no favoritism.

happy birthday! and umm... i guess select those you notice to be nice and active people, and those who have contributed a generous ammount non-exploited games, and have few to 0 wins.

whatever's happening for your birthday next month, i hope it is as awesome as you say it'll be, and thanks for your generosity in doing this :)

that's actually one of the best of ideas of heard of for a group. First off...it's awesome what you are doing. Having a maximum group number of 31 people is a nice number to have because people have a greater chance and/or and equal chance. With 31 games, the group will be incredible and I appreciate the fact that you're including indie games as well. My idea for choosing the other 25 people is that you should have something kind of like the olympic games. Yeah it sounds funny, but it might be worth trying. You could have "games" every day on Steam Gifts until the group fills up to 31 people. Some examples would be:

  • the closest person to my number gets a spot.
  • the person who picks my favorite animal gets a spot.
  • the person who guesses my first name gets a spot.
  • you could create one of these and the first person to solve and send you a screenshot will get a spot.

I think that you could get VERY creative and make some nice "olympic" style games. I'd like to know your thoughts on this :) Thank you and Happy (early) Birthday!

This is actually a very good idea :) it can even be some free games playable against eachother.
25 different games(sometimes a quiz or anything like that ) and the winners(best highscore or something like that)

Anyway i like you're idea very much :)

You should get people all excited to get attention and then make them dance for you!
DANCE, PUPPETS! DANCE! MUAHAHAHA

Also since there's plenty of time, make the selection process a 1-per-day thing as well for the sake of continuity :)

Or have people say random things and then somehow base a system on randomness to pick from those. Might as well bring creativity and innovativity to the next level :D

Maybe reserve a spot for the person who guesses what happens to you, if it's within reasonable bounds.
I'm guessing you are about to acquire some superpower that gets unlocked when you reach a certain age, or turn into a dragon!

Last, but not least, don't forget people got stuff to do, might wanna put up a bunch of the giveaways right off so they can enter beforehand :P (and have a mod in your friends list to reroll the double wins)

Happy birthday! Here is a mildly complicated but interesting way:

  • Have a thread where people recommend their favorite game that hasn't been taken already (so each game is listed once).
  • Compile a list of your 25 favorite games.
  • Those people would be invited.
This would select people with a similar taste in game as you with some randomness. It would take some effort, but might be fun. For bonus points you could limit the games to indie games or some category of games that would have less exposure (so people saying "half life" wouldn't get in automatically).

I would recommend making a puzzle of some sort and deciding it by the first 25 people to solve it, obviously not making it too easy and thus first come first serve.

well the problem with that is that the veteran puzzle solvers/know-it-alls would get in first.....just my piece of mind

I would ask people to post numbers, from 0 to 1000 lets say. Then use random.org, and roll the dice, always pick the closer, roll the thing 25 times, there go. :) happy bday btw

It's good, just like when greedy gifters was around....though I would have to ask that people would have to do some slight work for the giveaways.

Good idea Amnesia85

Here's my suggestion - if you cba making some survey, puzzle or something similar i suggest that you make it simple (like i would) and use one of those sites for random number generating. That's true randomness. Try www.random.org for instance. So what i actually suggest is that you put in everyone who contributed to this thread and link them with one number, then pick 25 numbers by using random number generator and that's it :) Of course, you can choose when you got enough people and how much will it last (until your b-day or much before that).

There, i hope this helped a bit.
