So, for anyone who has spent more than 5 seconds reading many of my posts or the text in many of my discussion threads, you should know that last year, my house was totally and completely flooded by Hurricane Harvey. We had five feet of water in our house for almost two weeks, and we've been working on rebuilding the first floor ever since. We haven't lived there for the past eight months.

However, the work has been coming along well (better than expected, really), and we're planning to move back into our house in another week! It doesn't mean that everything is done, and we'll still be working on things for probably the next 3-5 months to reach the true finish line. But, we have floors, appliances, and internet access, so that's half the battle right there. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ We'll be able to be in the house, cook in our own kitchen, and not have to drive over there to meet contractors and such. So, things are getting better.

I thought that I'd make a train in celebration of this day. It ends this coming Saturday, which is when we're planning to move back into our house. Enjoy the ride (I'm glad that this particular one is about over for me...lol)!

Choo-freaking-choo-choo-choo: πŸšˆπŸšƒπŸšƒπŸšƒπŸšƒπŸšƒ

BTW...there are a couple of nice DLCs that I have running an extra 24 hours in case the winners of the base games want to enter.

Also, there are carts in the train for people at levels 0 through 7+. Obviously, there are more interesting and valuable games toward the higher end of that spectrum, but I've tried to put in interesting things at various value levels throughout. Have fun!

EDIT: I just wanted to say "thanks" for all of the well-wishes. I apologize that I don't have time to respond to them all. But seriously, I really appreciate it. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but at least we'll be at home and can do it when it's convenient instead of planning a trip over to the house and having to carve out 3-4 hours. Of course, about a day after we move back in, I have to fly out of town for work for a week. C'est la vie. πŸ˜† 乁( β—” ΰ±ͺβ—”)ㄏ

That's great news! ...about returning home anyway, not the flood damage. Even though it's not fully fixed up I'm sure it'll be nice to be home again.

Thanks for the train and best of luck with the rest of the repairs!

Really happy to hear that you get to head back home.

I'm just down in Galveston, so if you need any help moving this weekend, let me know -- you can hit me up on SG or on Steam, whichever.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. We honestly don't have that much to move...a lot of the work is in all of the stuff we managed to get upstairs...so our bedrooms are basically giant storage units. We have to figure out where all of that goes in the newly rebuilt first floor (we changed things a lot while everything was torn to crap...may as well, since it'll never get cheaper to do). So, we probably won't need extra hands, but I truly appreciate the offer to help.

I love Galveston, BTW. I love seaside towns in general. We have some good friends that have a house in Galveston (it's a second/vacation home for them), and they let us use it when we want if it's not already booked up by someone else. :) We get down there for the weekend to take a break every once in a while. We should do a SGer real life meet up some time and grab a beer or something. That would be a good story for all of these other SGers around here. Real people! Amazing! πŸ˜†πŸ˜πŸ–πŸ»

Well, if you decide you do need extra hands, let me know!

Humorously, I don't love Galveston -- I'm just not much of a beach guy. But it's where my son is, and so it's where I will be for the foreseeable future. On the bright side, my girlfriend/soul mate is moving here this summer, so that's going to be awesome.

I would definitely be down for a real life SG meet up! I might want to wait until Tara moves down here, because she is definitely my better half, but let's do it!

Thank you for the nice train, Grez and good luck with your life.
If it's not too personal, are you making any anti-flood works in your home to prevent or limit damages in the future?

Ha, yes...if you scroll back through the discussion, you'll see a very long response about this. The short version is that we don't need to do much...we're not actually in a flood plain. We're not even required to have flood insurance (but we do, fortunately). This was a really, really freak occurrence of events that will likely never happen again. This house (and our entire neighborhood, in fact) has survived much worse hurricanes with almost no damage. This was all because a relatively weak hurricane got parked without moving in the same place for a week where the southern edge was out over the ocean, so it just kept pulling water and dumping it in this area. It turned out to be the worst flood in US history.

You should scroll up and see the other post...I have a lot of detail in there about why my neighborhood flooded, etc. It's actually pretty interesting, or at least it should be since you seem to be curious about it. πŸ˜€

Thank you for the warm wishes, and I'll either update this thread or start a new one a little while after we're back in the house and settled.

Interesting read, thanks. Sorry for your expenses, but luckily your losses were contained.
Sadly with the warming globe tese kinds of events are bound to become more common.
I hope governments around the world will start to take into consideration the changing climate.
