IME, CardIdleRemastered, ASF or Idle-Daddy. That's all I know.
IM is dead for ages. Idle Master Extended took directly over it but it's unstable as f*** in my experience and tends to break every once in a while. Luckily there's always a fix shortly afterwards on IM Steam Group
This should be the most recent fix

IdleMaster Extended. I was using Idle-Daddy but somehow got extremely buggy for me. ASF is/was always out of my preference.

Archi Steam Farm

It takes a bit of work to setup. But, when I last looked, it was the only one that can be told to skip games while they are in Steam's automatic refund window.

It also has some multi-account functionality. As in, it runs multiple accounts and automatically send all the cards to one of them. I've never used any of that.

IdleMaster, in those rare instances when I can be bothered to idle anything. (Kinda lost all its appeal when steam gifting functionality got gutted.) It's'ill working fine enough through its basic activation; Thass'enough fer me.

Idle master extended - it is the same as idle master :)

I use Archi's Steam Farm not only because it's the most efficient farming software out there at this time, but because it offers various other features like managing multiple accounts, key redemption and license activation. Honestly, these days, farming cards doesn't matter much to me but I still use it for these other features.

It looks confusing at first, but it's actually pretty easy to setup and once your done, you just leave it running and don't need to worry about anything.

How is not being able to play a game while farming with it, efficient? Noone could ever explain that to me.

Is what you described doable with other farm method?

Yes, with Idlemaster Extended you can play games and use it at the same time.

If you play a game while idling - drop rate reduced dramatically, so actually there is no big difference between "idle game->play while idling -> continue idling" and "idle game -> stop idling while playing another game -> continue idling".
But if you only have one account - I guess IM extended is acceptable choice (forgive me Archi).

At one point it was so bugged just by pressing next it would already drop cards.

I think many would prefer just being able to play something and they don't care how long it would take for a card to drop.
Personally i don't find it takes that long/longer.

I think many would prefer just being able to play something and they don't care how long it would take for a card to drop.

And ASF gives you that, with just one extra mouse click. If you start the game while asf is farming, steam will show a warning saying that this account already used elsewhere... You just click on "Yes" and play your game. ASF dectects it and stop idling, and after you exit your game - ASF will resume idling. That's a small price for many advantages ASF gives, but you probably won't notice most of those advantages if you have only one steam account.

At one point it was so bugged just by pressing next it would already drop cards.

This glitch is still there. It's just asf does not implement exploit of this bug, just in case. It's against steam ToS to exploit bugs, and while nobody was ever banned for using this bug, Archi decided that it will be safer not to use it.

Far better to exploit the glitch formerly known to give you free games, add them easily and come back to all cards farmed.

What's the hurry anyways, cards are only useful 2 times a year and abusing Steam to get them a moment faster still gets you the exact same cards in the end.

I don't think it's a small price, it also really depends if you play alot of games or not, if you work, have a life maybe, then you can idle in your away moments, but if you basically play alot of games or have spare moments you can have your computer on, it's a bigger price.

I must say, I didn't checked it recently, so things might have changed, but when I tried it - I basically got no cards when Idling together with playing games. Back than, if you started two games in the same time, you don't get cards from each game with the same rate, you don't even get the cards from each game with 1/2 rate, more like you got cards from each game with 1/10 rate or even lower. I checked it, and found out there is absolutely no reason to have idler on while I'm playing - it makes no sense. Maybe, if things changed - then you are right. But, as I said multiple times already - with only one account difference is insignificant, keep using IM.

Agree. ASF have lot of useful features, include the farming cards.

with idlemaster, you were actually able to go to next game easymode (no clue it is even possible with ASF) and if you close a game card-drop faster. Because of the same reason with ASF card farming takes ages compared to idle master, sadly it did not work for me last few time I tried so I stopped idling.

Also, I can play with Idlemaster while idling, not really worth to keep a pc running just for idling, electricity costs more than those 2-3 cents cards:-p

Hey, to each their own - I personally don't only have my PC on when I'm playing on Steam (as I'm sure is the case with many) so I don't really see the advantage of being able to abuse a glitch to get cards faster or idling when I'm playing, since it typically slows down/breaks idling anyways to do so.

This is why I say ASF is a "set it up and forget it" kind of thing - Once it's running it'll deal with the farming for you. Not the best thing for everyone, but personally I think it offers an advantage over other idling software. The only one thing that other idlers have to offer for me would be the card drop glitch exploit abuse, which I can live without (although to be honest, I did get most of my cards to drop this way before moving to ASF).

I dont trust third party applications for connecting to my steam account, so I'm doing it the old fashioned way, watching the screen while the game runs.

Raspbian.
It's pretty easy to get going, and don't even need to compile ASF, just unzip.
Only had one hiccup recently where the ASF auto-update didn't work so I had to get a new copy from the website.

ASF, great for cards but becoming greater with every update, adding games via addlicense, saves me lot of time.

I'm a fan of the old tradition for farming to be honest. I get a game and plant it in my pre-readied plot.
I make sure it gets the electricity it needs for proper nourishment (otherwise you can't exactly expect any sort of harvest!)
Doesn't take too long to grow so within a few hours my game will start flowering and producing its cards. Not all at once mind you, they are fickle things.
Then with these cards I can either take them to steam Market and sell them to other possible farmers. Or I can keep em until I have a full set, where upon I can register them into a badge to show my skill as a farmer.
Latter is a good choice as the more renowned a farmer you are, amount of badges, the higher a chance the Steam market council will approve of my efforts and reward me with more sets of different game cards.
